A 4040 is more expensive to buy than a Merlin.
You might have to buy a booster pump for the 4040.
But a 4040 should produce less waste water than a Merlin.
A 4040 would probably produce better quality water (lower ppm) than a Merlin so you should use less resin and also save money that way.

I haven't brought enough 4040 systems to say what's best, mines a pure freedom and runs a dream, when the membrane requires changing I buy a quality, recognised make.

For 600 ltrs a day I'd stick with the merlin, great RO's - you get better performance from it if you buy a decent booster pump ( which you'll need for a 4040 anyway ) you merlin will then produce lower TDS and more litres per hour of pure, I'm did around 120 ph winter 150 summer.
