Are the Claber reels on Gardiners website suitable for lifting in and out of the vehicle, to use with an external van port. The last thing I want is for the hose reel to be following me down the road because it's too light.

If they are ok for this type if use, they seem a very good price.

I'd rather keep the van doors locked without having to cut holes in the vehicles for rollers etc.

Dazmond am I right in thinking you  have one if these. Are they sturdy?

After nearly 5 years of lifting reel in and out ive had enough and they're getting bolted to the back of the vans floor this weekend..

It was a joke for sure. At 49 its starting to feel real heavy. I have only done it less than a year part time lol. cant wait to start fixing it down and getting an electric motor fitted. Snagging is a concern. It present, I put it on the floor and aim it to the job. I have a long wheel base transit, so just getting parked near job is hard enough at time, never mind back of van facing right direction.
Next is microbore instead of minibore. Every bit of weight loss is a gain.
I tried leaving reel in van, until it fell of back of van and broke reel

use those cheap pipe clips there about a pound for 20, clip hose in the back to hold it steady, easy enough to pull off for awkward jobs that you can pull out of van and aim in right direction

yes they are sturdy and cheap.also very light for lifting out of van esp if you use microbore.

i dont see the point in lifting reel out of the van all the time.ive not done it for years now.much easier to leave it in.

if i want to lock the van while working i just pull enough hose out for the job then lock the van with the hose coming out the bottom of the van doors.no probs with microbore.

Lifting in and out doesn't bother me. I've been using the Purefreedom ones but these are a fraction of the price if they perform well enough.

Pulling enough hose out is a bigger pain. You end up with a coil on the floor. Also winding back snags all over on van etc.Fare easier to face reel, where needed. Pull to job. Reel in when done. Only down side is lifting a heavy reel back in. Microbore could help.
Could fit on eon a swivel plate mounted on van roof

Having tried both ways. leaving the reel in the van is far easier.reeling in is a doddle!
