moving jobs forward 2 wks on cleaner planner
« on: December 20, 2014, 12:21:35 pm »
so how do you guys do it?

i made a big mistake yesterday as i went to the jobs tab and moved all jobs to the 5th jan thinking they would still be in the same order just different dates.instead it moved  ALL  my  jobs to the 5th jan!300+ jobs all due on one day! ::)roll

so i spent nearly 4 hours sorting all my work out into days/weeks ready for starting back in the new year.all sorted now.

only been using cleaner planner for just over a month now.

i also noticed in cleaner planner it says PUSH ALL JOBS BACK X AMOUNT OF DAYS which is confusing when your moving work FORWARD!

cheers in advance guys :)

Use the planner and highlight all the jobs you want to add to a worksheet

I found after I moved a job they're still highlighted, so when u move some more it moves the first lot again unless u de highlight it

Hi Dazmond,

Glad you got this sorted :) You do have to be a bit careful with the "Change Due" button as it is rather powerful! But as we figured out discussing this on the CP forum, you must have selected the "Change all jobs to 5/12/14" option, which of course will move ALL your jobs to the selected date. The system will default to the other option (the one you wanted) which was to "Push jobs back 18 days". If you'd kept it on this option it would have moved all the jobs back 18 days relative to their current due dates (thereby preserving their individual schedules) but I think you've figured that out now! Worth bearing in mind if this did happen again in the future, I take hourly backups, so if you make an error like this I can usually revert things for you.

Regarding whether it should be "push back" or "bring forward" it's up to debate really ;) You are pushing them back, i.e. pushing back the date when you'll do them (like when you "push back" a meeting), but I guess you're also bringing them forward i.e. into the future? Ah, you can look at it either way, but if the date is in the future then I don't think it can be misinterpreted?

Eco - yes good point, the planner retains your selection (I thought that would be handy) but maybe it shouldn't? I'll give that some thought...

What happens on CP if you don't move jobs forward.

If you have work today, but did not do them how does CP handle this.  Do the jobs move to the next day automatically putting them in as a priority on the new day?

Hi Paul, if the job is on a worksheet then it stays there (and stays on your phone if you're using the mobile app) until you do it. So basically, you can "rollover" work you didn't do to tomorrow. You'll know to prioritise it because it will be on yesterday's worksheet. You can also drag the jobs from one day to the next on the planner (you don't have to though as the jobs will stay on the worksheet and just become late). Hope that makes sense, let me know if you have any further questions.
