« on: October 21, 2014, 02:41:07 pm »
just wonderd how many times you would canvas an area in a year ? ive done one particular area twice but no responce by leaflet or door knocking.the reason ive kept an eye on it is i do a few on the estate ,the quality of work is appaling.by trad.the tops of the frames and partly down the sides are black and i mean black and soap residue on sills. when i was tra id give tops a quick wipe.these houses are quite newish 6yrs max.i must be too dear gose to show what people will put up with

As a trad cleaner I don't do frames unless asked and charge a little more for it. most are not bothered about them as long as the sills are good.
I can see this changing as WFP becomes more popular though.

There will be areas that you just wont get a start in I have a few like that, basically the shiner gives the glass
a quick wipe and that's what he charges for.
So going into the area and offering to clean everything but at a higher price doesn't seem to work.
In other areas people are reluctant to give up a poor quality shiner they have had for years to get a guy
who might do a better job but quit in six months.
From my experience you should only need to canvass an area once as long as you get a few customers on the
first go.
The rest will come from people seeing you work there and neighbours recommending you but it wont happen overnight.
Work the odd Saturday just to get noticed.

Hope this helps, but my Brit customers are soldiers serving in garrisons about 30 to 50 miles from where I live. Because of postings and people leaving the army, I canvass twice a year. I drop leaflets telling the tenants that I'll be calling soon to see if they are interested and that we work 6 weekly etc. Then I knock within 48 hrs. While the topic is still fresh in their minds. Works really well for me as long as I knock within that time period. Any later, and it's less than half as good.
No still don't understand, I must be thick

There are 2 estates near me that I have a bit of work on ... have leafleted them and or canvassed them every year since 2010.

Gone from 1 on each estate to 21 on one and 14 on the other in that time.

Mostly from other windies dropping out and people seeing me working but sure the canvass / leaflets have helped.

This coming year plan to drop leaflets in the jan and march with a canvass in the march ... maybe get a few more on board.

sometimes can be a slow burn this job  :)
