When is a 30 foot pole not ........
« on: September 15, 2014, 04:26:49 pm »
............a 30 foot pole?   Evidently when its an Omnipole!!!!! Bought a 30 foot scooter pole, when extended into the red overlap area it is at best 26 foot. Now get this,i have been advised to add 1 foot plastic angle adapters to make it the correct height(this as most of you have worked out gives me a nice useable collapsed 10foot pole!!!  Despite repeated phone calls (no calls back,of course) i am getting nowhere so i shall report to E bay and see what happens.Be very careful if buying these poles if you specifically need a certain length!!

I think nearly all  manufacturers mislead when it comes to advertised pole length to actual extended pole length.

The reason they say is that when you add the height of the person to the 26ft it becomes 30ft.

The only company that specifies the actual pole length when extended is (I think) Gardiners.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

Thats what happens when you dont buy from Gardiners , I am pretty sure other manufactures just go on gardiners website and just copy the pole specs .

Then list their poles as cheaper but the one thing i have found is Gardiners Poles are in a different class and i have had a pole that has claimed to be the same weight as an SLX and it was noticably heavier. Mike

I think facelift advertise a length rather than reach, but other like you say include the operator in the length.

Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 goods must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.

If a pole is described as 30' in length and its 26' the seller is guilty of misleading the purchaser. I'd report them.

Just looked up omnipole scooter on ebay, and assuming it is the same as the one steveig bought, it states clearly that the pole is 30' and has a 35' working reach ???

So yes, if no joy from the seller, definitely complain to ebay, trading standards or whatever. But also, if you paid using paypal, you may get your money back through them.

Most poles are quoted in reach lengths not actual length. Usually the actual length is stated somewhere though.

However to say it's REACH is 35ft on a 26 ft pole is pretty bad.

Unfortunately i have now learnt that i only had 8 days to resolve this issue with the seller to get any joy from E bay. The guy obviously knew this and has stalled me by "being out of the office" each time i phoned. i know he visits the trade shows so i might set up a little stall outside at the next one and everyone can see what they are buying before hand!!

I think i would still be inclined to get in touch with trading standards about it, as the item was described as being a 30' pole, but clearly is not.

Also, be sure to put in a negative review of the seller.

If you paid by PayPal you can do a claim through them and get your money back through the resolution Center, you have 45 days I think. I have done this quite a few times and got my money back evey time.
