« on: September 17, 2014, 07:31:21 pm »

We have got a job which involves windows which have never had the tape removed from the frames needless to say, It is well and truly baked onto the frames

Has anyone got any tips to remove the tape

hi dave...could try steaming them to soften the glue, should then be able to peel off, and then using the white non scratch scourers  or use a solvent. if you use a solvent try it out on a small inconspicuous area first.

iv heard of people using heat guns? but iv never tried that.

I used Oilflow to get sellotape residue off a frame today. Avoid it - it's utter crap!

I used Virosol first - didn't work too well then Ajax cream and that didn't work, next came Oilflow which was very slightly better followed by my scraper. This glue had only been on the frame a couple of months and was still very sticky. Wouldn't fancy cleaning a lot of frames like that.

Wurth UPVC cleaner - rubbish at removing grey marks (like it claims on tin) but brilliant for removing tape residue from frames.

Hi Guys

Some good ideas there, but it is the tape itself that is the problem, it is really stuck,

When it is removed it doesn't leave a residue, it just keeps breaking as you remove it

Mr Seagull, from past experience.... run Forest run.

No solvent, sticky stuff remover, g101, etc, makes the slightest bit of difference.

The stuff is a nightmare to get off and what does come off, comes off in tiny little slithers and bits.

The residue left behind can be removed (eventually) with a frame solvent cleaner like ciroflex, etc.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.
