Hi Guys
At the moment im just running a my water straight through my 25ltr di vessel but its costing me a fortune in resin, I think its time I got myself another RO, the last one I had was a merlin but it was to slow as I don't have the best water pressure, what do you guys have and what do you recommend? should I go for a 4040?

4040 all the way. Get one with a HF5 membrane.

running 4040s you need good tap pressure 40 psi minimum and that's even bad really.

Gaps water do the hf5 4040 with two ten inch pre filters that you assemble yourself(easy peasy) for about 600 quid and then buy a clarke 240e pump from machine mart to get the pressure right up for about 300.gets tds down to around 7 and fills a 1000ltr tank in about 4 hours with a 60/ 40 waste ratio. hope that helps

get a 450gpd ro with a booster pump, will make 600+ litres of pure water overnight,

costs far less than a 4040 ro

Sorry but if you live in a soft water area and can produce the water you need whilst out at work into a static tank  or into your van tank over night YOU DO NOT NEED A 4040 plus save yourself some money .

I live in a soft water area and i got a 450gpd RO from www.daqua.co.uk for £180.00 inc delivery which fills my 300 ltr static tank whilst out at work in less than 8 hrs . Mike

I live in a hard water area, my water tests at 357 tds, and as im on a water meter I need to fill up asap...

A smaller ro may take longer but does not mean a greater use of water it's just a lot slower getting through the system
The best ro depends on your daily useage and future requirements, if you only intend to be a one man operation and have a place to keep a 1000 ltr ibc then a small 450 ro will do you.

Otherwise it's worth the investment of a Merlin or 4040 both should be run with a decent booster pump and double di resin bottles

The Merlin is more wasteful with water and is slower than a 4040 the Merlin can do 100 ltrs an hour easy my 4040 is in the 200+ p/h range

Merlin is much easier to setup and cheaper to buy and would last years when changing the the prefilters regularly

If you're on a water meter then you need one that puts out a minimum of waste water - even on the best systems with good water pressure 1 part pure to 1 part waste is about the best you can get without prematurely killing membranes - and water pressure is a big factor in both the waste/pure ratio and the output tds (as well as speed of production) so if your budget is limited  I'd recommend getting a smaller pumped  system rather than a larger un-pumped one.

Find out your water pressure first no point in buying a ro if the tap pressure ain't going to run the ro to its best, then decide whether you need a booster pump and what size ro you would need, if you fill straight into your van you might need a big ro for quicker filling time, but if you use a static system you could get away with a smaller one.
