How to flush Merlin RO
« on: July 04, 2014, 05:45:43 pm »
Hello guys

I don't do a massive amount of wfp work my round is probably 90% trad 10% wfp, all work is commercial. I have a Merlin RO and replaced carbon filter bout 3 months ago, and a fellow windy has said I should flush it ??? News to me !! Not sure about it at all tbh.

I have landed a job that's guna be using somewhere near to 15,000 litre of water, and can use there external tap, so happy days, it's filling as am working, my water is coming out of Merlin at 007 at the mo so it's doing its job and changed my sand yesterday.

Am just ordering a spare set of membranes and carbon filter as I don't want to come un stuck half way through the job.

But am now left thinking why what & how is flushing the RO going to help or change the affects of the Merlin

Any help would be appreciated

Matt

Each time you turn the water on to use the Merllin let the water run through it for a few minutes to flush any accumulated salts out before connecting to the DI.

If you don't, all it'll mean is you use up the resin a little bit faster.

I don't know how you're getting 007. Even with new filters and a booster pump, the lowest I've ever had is 021.

Oh ye for Ross I don't even use a booster pump I simply connect to the external tap which is based in the kop stand (left corner behind programme box) if you need to see for yourself and hose goes right into merlin.
Again am new to this so am asking those that know there stuff

Sounds mint mate, fair play to you  :)

Work out how to get the pics up mate, they'll be great to look at!

(Also if you're getting spare filters make sure you've got spare resin, the resin will go before your filters...)

Will do Don,
I will get in touch with bob plum an ask him how to post pics, I was sending him some last week but he's a blue nose and didn't appreciate them. I have been doin work for them for bout 10 years, subbing through a cleaning company but took the contract on myself last season, I do academy Melwood offices warehouses and regular work 3 times a week at the ground and pre match cleans including exec boxes tv lounge. This is first season I have done exterior to stadium. Finished kop stand last week and now starting roof, then cladding and rest of stadium. Hence the questions regarding merlin.

Thanks again Don

Chill mate..... deep breaths and relax.....

I'm not doubting you at all and there's no need to send pictures.

My comment was valid having used a Merlin for about 9 years with and without a booster pump from various different sources or taps generally with the input TDS of about 350.

I am a bit confused though. It sort of reads that the water you use or intend to use has a TDS from the tap of 007? Or have I got it wrong?

No need to thank me Matty for giving you the information you asked for, but it was nice of you to get defensive and tell us all about your contracts.

Not sure what tds is coming out of tap, but I will check, the tds reading was what it was going into my tank, after Merlin.

Sorry guys if I sounded like I was on one, I was just asking for help an it seemed that there was a little bit of p taking getting sent back.

If am at a job doing trad work I will always connect up and if tds after Merlin is high (35+) I won't bother filling me tank I suppose it depends on the tap pressure and how much it's used.

Again am new to this wfp work so I have to ask questions or trial and error is only way I find things out.

Fao 8 weekly - any time mate am on ere to help also, if you need any help with contracts or pricing just let me know !!!!

In general Ross, we've very low TDS in Liverpool, there are a few differences but in the main most readings are sub 100PPM. We've a Merlin pumping out 3PPM (no booster).
