 Just wondering how you guys fare with the dreaded traffic wardens in your areas.
Parking is a real problem where we are and there are more and more resident permit zones being created, it's a real nightmare.
I use my extracta from the back of my truck most of the time or sometimes just outside the front door, and much of the time have to park on the yellow lines.
More than a few times i've been moved on by the wardens who are completely unreasonable
Is this normal, and do carpet cleaners have a right to park outside a property if they are working
I've tried to tackle the local council several times over the last few years but to no avail, although the the tickets i have had have often been cancelled when i have written and explained, but it's real hassle
any thoughts please?

I just stick the hazard lights on and haven't had any problems, on the rare occasions I've seen a traffic warden they've walked straight past, then again there seems to be a certain lack of regard for traffic laws locally, the town centre in Wisbech was allegedly pedestrianised over 10 years ago but the place is full of traffic and the council don't seem to do anything about it, they say its the police's responsibility and vice verse, having said that i think legally you're allowed to load and unload so i would leave a door slightly open if its safe to do so and just say i was unloading

legally you are not allowed to park regardless of work but you are allowed 10 minutes to load. i have heard of some t/ms who have put on flashing lights and a notice on the screen saying they are doing emergency flood work and get away with it

dispensation vouchers! You can park where you want within reason and if you buy enough of them they work out at 88p not bad for a days parking.

Thats my local council anyway

If there are enough hoses trailing around your van, there's always the chance that the traffic warden might trip over.......

Set up a video camera, just in case.

Than way, when you get the parking fine, you can pay it with the £1000 from You've Been Framed

Most of the time traffic wardens are OK flashing light plus warning signs help. The only time I get tickets from them, is when I park on private land. Westminster council please take note it getting very boring!

Single and double yellow line have funny working hours a bit like bus lanes.

Do know of a franchise that went to quote on there return to the van it had a ticket on, they went strait back to the potential customer and demanded payment of the fine.

If you are a limited company or business, a parking ticket can become a business expense. I was told this when on a self employment course in 2002  by the firm Coots who are also the queens bankers. Unfortunately, they would'nt give me an overdraft, let alone a bank account.

Learn't some other useful things and still got the course boo that accompanied it.

i had a customer used to give cheques from coots of london bank, out of all my customers this was the only one with that bank, they was very very posh and i thought it must be a posh back

Until i started carpet cleaning, i had never seen or been given a fifty pound note until a regular customer who's Korean started paying me with them. His wife travels back and for from their own country as he lives and works here, then when she comes back, she gets them at the airport.

Remember all the fascinating customers you meet, as in later years you might want to write a book about them. People would probably not believe that some of the people we meet really excist.

I've just had a penalty notice fron B'ham council for a ticket I never had, have never ever been in the road and was working 25 miles away at the time. How do I prove it, can I ask them for proof? I cant think someone has cloned my old van, if they want it that bad they can have it for next to nothing, I would get more for the muck on it to grow taters!

Ken Livingstone is also running Birmingham city council like he is running London, and handing out penalties for vehicles that wern't even in the vicinity.

We have a guy in South Wales who keeps getting a congestion charge fine, when he hasn't been nowhere near London.

Go to the parking dept of your local council and apply for a traders permit.

In Brighton it costs about 300 quid for a year.

Depends if it is worth the cost, you may also have to wait for up to 6 months???

Just drive to Birmingham, and choose a number from any matching van there........... get fake plates made at your local car boot sale............ hey presto!

There's thousands of vehicles going round with cloned plates, and our beloved Government are doing nothing about it.

most wardens take a digital photo of the offending vehicle as proof so you could ask to see it!
