If i thought my life (or anyone else's) was in danger from a dog, or any other animal, i wouldn't hesitate to do whatever i could with whatever i had access to. I think, even with no witnesses, you would be ok as far as the law was concerned, unless the dog/animal owner could prove your story false.

As for the cat, again, unless foul play could be proven, i don't think there would be anything the cat owner could do. But, i would hate to think you were planning something like that poleking?!.

I was at a customers the other day, an old lady, who had just had her garden done up. She was pointing out these battery powered cat deterrent's she had in 4 places around her garden, said they work a treat, no problem with cats, and the battery lasts most of the year.

I've got the battery things.
'Ultrasonic' they're called.
They take 2 nine volt batteries and need changing about quarterly.
They do work.
There's one little black spot where the sensor doesn't reach.
They sit there. Haven't crapped there though.

I'm not planning anything Simon, just wondered what the repercussions were.
But the thing is, if the cat craps on my kids toys, they touch it, put their hands near their faces/eyes, toxoplasmosis could ensue.
And I would take a million dead animals over my boys going blind.
(I don't mean that to sound as emo as it probably comes across but I assume you catch my drift)
Recommend the ultrasonic thing though, if anyone is struggling.

It's just the internet. Try not to worry.

Well if you think your kids might be at risk, then i would say anything goes!.
No seriously, i understand where you are coming from. I remember being out with my 2 boys years ago, the little one would have only been about 3 at the time, we were in a public park. He fell over and landed with his hand in an enormous dog poo. I did, fortunately, have a packet of tissues in my pocket, so managed to get the actual poo off his hand, but trying to get him home without him putting his hand anywhere near his mouth was a struggle!. And i believe cats poo is worse in terms of potential health hazard.
