Van insurance and MIRA?
« on: December 18, 2013, 09:06:15 pm »
Hi All

Has anyone had a reduction in van insurance cost due to having a crash tested system fitted rather than a DIY or non crash tested system?  I may need to increase my tank size for the summer months, plus my old tank is starting to leak a little and was wondering if there were any other advantages for going for a tank like grippamax other than the obvious safety benefits.

Simon.

I tired this with A-plan last year when my insurance had come round! they where quite dear even though it had been fitted by grippa.

In the end More than was cheapest and it can all be done online without talking to anyone under modifications.

Be very careful mate, if your tank isn't listed as a modification in the actual policy document, then your insurance is not valid.  It's no use talking to someone over the phone and them saying "yes yes its covered", it has to be actually in the policy wording itself.

Apparently a few window cleaners have come unstuck with this lately, only finding out they aren't insured when they have an accident, and some companies, eg  Aviva will not insure vans with tanks at all, no matter who fits them.

I'm with Alexander Swan, and it states on the policy schedule that the van is fitted with a system, and details about it (eg capacity, fitted by ionic etc)

Really??

Well that's something new then, because when I got a quote from them a few months ago online, when you select "window cleaning" as your business, it specifically said "WE DO NOT PROVIDE COVER FOR VANS WITH WATER TANKS FITTED"

I remember being suprised at how specific it was.

Maybe it wasn't aviva, might have been another company.  I'll see if I can dig it out.

Aviva don't insure vans with a water tank according to several people at their call centre. Pity, as the quote was 1/2 of Ageas.
