brand new shurflo pump losing power
« on: November 28, 2013, 01:03:26 pm »
bought a new shurflo 100psi pump and when I first set up all up into my system it took ages to start pumping the water out of the tank, when it eventually did I could see the jets of water slowly dieing down until it was coming out very slowly.
when iturn the pole tap off for a couple of seconds then back on again it comes out fast like it should then dies down again.

Any ideas anyone? have I been sold a dud pump?

The battery I use is brand new and fully charged

Are you new to WFP?  Is it an airlock?  Is the pump positioned close to the van floor?  Do you use a flow controller?

I personally think you use a flow controller and it needs calibrating, or just hitting with a hammer.  I don't use them; they're over-priced lumps of 'mess you about'.  I like a nice fast man's flow anyway.

Iv been using a backpack since jan this year but only got my van system set up a couple of weeks ago.

im not sure what an airlock is?

the pump was mounted to the inside of the van about a foot off the floor

no I don't use a flow controller, I was planning on buying a one though.

any one got any ideas? I could do with sorting it tonight as I have a big commercial job tomorrow

Remove pump from wherever you have it mounted and lay it on van floor.
Then remove hose from hose reel inlet and place the end of the hose in a bucket.
Start pump up and it should clear any air lock and pump water through freely.
Then re-mount pump in a lower position in the van.
Also check the pump strainer is clear of debris if you have one.

Can you hear the pump getting slower? Is it making knocking noises but running at the original speed?
