Gas for hot water - Safefill
« on: November 26, 2013, 08:59:17 am »
Hi Everyone

Does anyone here use Safefill gas bottles for their water heater?

20l is £150, however if you can find somewhere to fill up they look good.

Any problems with filling them up?

Thanks
Tom

Tom just use a 13 kg propane gas bottle, got two of them cost me £50 to fill both of them up. Just bought the second bottle off eBay for £12.50. Does me mate only use them thru winter and keep the gas low as I only use warm water just to keep the hoses nice and soft and stops the freezing up so one bottle lasts me around 7 weeks maybe longer 👳👳👳

They work on exchange - most garages and hardware stores sell them. Give them your empty bottle and the swop it for a full one - you pay for the gas.

The empty gets collected by Calorgas and filled at their depot and given to someone else. The gas bottle isn't yours.

If you buy a Safefill the gas bottle is yours. If you check on the map on their site, they have located the depots and service stations that do allow you to fill the bottle from their LPG tanks. There may be one close to you.

my last 13kg bottle lasted 6 days!got 4 days in with new bottle but ive got a feeling itll run out by the end of the week! ;D

no point having boiler on min temperature settings IMO.i want warm water at brush end not lukewarm.it cuts through the dirt quicker and easier and hoses are nice and supple and keep my hands warm.
price higher/work harder!

Tom Spruce is spot on, I've got a place in Bow East London where they only deal with exchanging gas bottles but there are plenty around. 2 a month bloodyhell Darran you must be working ya lil nuts off lol !!! You must do mainly domestic, my work is mainly commercial so wouldn't go thru as much as you guys as we do alot of inside work and not outside sometimes

i use a gasit tank and i can refill it from my local garage, you can get the external filling port for it as well ( but i havent )
it costs 72 per litre to refill, and the best thing is you can just top it up when you want.
i normally fill up with deisel once a week and while im there fill up the gas.
been using it for the last couple of years, would never go back to swapping lpg cylinders

heres a pic before i fitted it

I'm surprised that will last a week, don't look like it holds much gas ? It's gotta be easier just to put empty bottle in grab new one and quicker !!!!! 😏

Its a 20l, with 80% fill.
You can get larger tanks, this one fitted nicely in a space in my van.
I assure you its easier using the refill tank than swapping cyclinders ( i used normal cyclinders for over 3 years )
