Cancellation phone call didnt go as he had planned
« on: June 05, 2013, 05:17:53 pm »
Phone rings mid morning

Hello

"Hi Ian its Mr Jones here from 17 Bull Poo Close is it ok to cancel my window cleaning ?"

Yes no problem - im glad you called now as im on the estate this afternoon and yours would have been cleaned but yup no problem at all - bye

"Dont you want to know why Im cancelling ?"

No         (they never tell the truth most times so never bother asking their reasons)

"Oh so you dont want to know then?"

Nope I dont .... bye Mr Jones

"Well dont you want to know how to stop me from cancelling ?"

No I dont

"Well thats no way to run a business is it !!!"

Im going now Mr Jones - bye.

"Well if you can do them for £7 I will stay with you" (he currently paid me £12 .. 3 bed detached with a conny but was about to go up to £14 which is still too cheap)

£7 quid !!!!!!! told you before Mr Jones I have nothing on my round under £8 and thats a 1 bed cottage with 4 windows so suggest you go with the new window cleaner ... bye

"I dont like your attitude and another thing ............."

click as i hung up.

was on the estate an hour later and do a few next to him but he never came out to talk to me.

Took the guy on about 6 cleans ago as his old ladder windie used to skip bathroom window and couldnt reach the 1 over the conny ... he pulled a face when i told him £12 as old windie charged £8 and a few months ago tried to pay me £8 instead of £12 as "thats what we had agreed"

Still u gotta laugh  ;D

used to let them worry me but hard skin after a few years.

I seem to get one or two mentally unstable ones a year  :o

About five years ago I had a real awkward one, a witch of a woman who kept on trying to change the terms and conditions; but I refused and stuck rigidly to what we originally agreed.  I just didn't like the woman.

What she wanted was for me to clean the outsides one month, then the insides ONLY the next.  Insides is a pain; outsides is a doddle.  There was some other stuff too.

Anyway, I refused and said it was outside every month (as we agreed) for £15 and insides on demand (another £15).

Eventually she phoned me to gloat that she found another window cleaner who would do it.  I thanked her and hung up.  Turns out it was Squeaky and he was charging her £12 for the privilege of getting mucked about.

I had to smile when I saw her mug in our local paper and she's getting done for fraud:

If these people can't even be honest with their window cleaner, who can they be honest with?

Karma!

I had a clean and also did this fella's daughter. Back just before Xmas and i'm trying to get round everyone to make sure they are clean for Xmas and do the odd one off that I get asked for and this bloke says, "You're not going to clean them in this are you!?" It was windy but nothing bad. Anyway I said I was and he was moaning about leaves getting blown on the glass, so I had a bit of a rant putting my side across and said "Right, no problem.' and I left him dropping him from the round. Did his daughter next - good as gold.

Anyway this was an 8 weekly, so I missed him in Feb and did the daughter as usual. In April I did the daughter and when she pays me she says, 'Dad says you can call on him today if I want'. I said nah, i've dropped him. She smiled and nodded understandingly!

That made me feel really good. Especially as I know I did a great job and he won't get another windie easily.

No         (they never tell the truth most times so never bother asking their reasons)

It puzzles me why you would take this attitude straight off the bat. I would want to know why he wanted to cancel. If he told me he wanted it done for £7 I'd have laughed at him but; what if it had been something else? Something you could have rectified? You have gone to all the trouble of gaining this customer, done his first clean etc. All the hard work is done, you'll have to do it all again to replace him.

normally i would have asked as you say all hard work done but with this chap I knew or was pretty sure it was the price due to him previously trying to knock me down when it came to paying plus I knew the estate had been leafletted by a much cheaper window cleaner a week earlier as a customer passed me the leaflet when i was doing their conny roof last week but take your point Soapy  :)

So you still don't know if it was down to a dodgy seal dripping after you've finished or you accidentally smashed a garden ornament with your hose as you were exiting the garden or you forgot a couple of windows (easy mistake) ? You weren't willing to allow the customer his two minutes?
