Vinyl Floor
« on: June 06, 2013, 03:01:34 pm »
Hi chaps

I have a large strip and seal to do, but on this occasion its vinyl. Done loads before but not sealed (or have I lol - can't remember!). Anyway the client wants a high sheen and I have to strip all the old polish off first.

So whats the best high sheen sealer to use (non slip)? Are these any good?

What other ones are there that work well?

Bit of an open question I know but basically it needs to be as long lasting as possible. Also any good maintainer cleaning products out there - for them to use afterwards?

PU Antislip is a great product. Its a 2 part polyurethane. An aggregate added to part one, rolled on the floor, allowed 2 hours to dry and then a second coat applied.

Costs about £5/m2 for the product.

This product is normally only available to approved applicators.

Should have said the PU Antislip is matt finish.

What location is the floor in. A textured product may not be required.

So a textured product wouldn't be good in a high traffic area? The one I am looking at is in the hall (with rug runner) and kitchen.

Its in a ground floor large reception/rest area - drinks and food (commercial premises) with rear and front entrances and rear and front staircases.

Its gloss at the moment and want it gloss again.

The textured product is required where there are areas of wet traffic like the scenario Kev depicts.

I don't see the Antislip being a product for domestic use more commercial.

It can definitely handle high traffic however if it is glossy firstly their is already a perception it will be slippy and secondly if you use the aggregate it highlights the fact its textured and doesn't look too great.

Anything else you can recommend Jamie?

Not a anti-slip treatment but Chemspec Tight Shine meets the requirements for slip resistance, has good gloss and is very economical and hard wearing. There is also the Hard Sealer from Dr.Schutz similar to the one you purchased for your Karndean.

I would recommend a product called Nano Powershine, we have been promoting it for some time and have been receving tremendous feedback from contract cleaners, what they love about it is that once you apply the first treatment you need never strip the floor again, you simply apply futher coating of the product after 6 - 12 months depending on footfall.
