Which Wagtail?
« on: April 16, 2013, 08:12:10 am »
What is the best version of the wagtail for high level pole work?
15-25 feet.

I think at that height I would personally use something like the Unger vice versa squeegee.
The reason being that you can just mop the window then turn the pole around and squeegee off.
A wagtail takes more practice to master especially at that height!
And with a wagtail you scrub the window with the pad and then you have to flip the pad back and then squeegee the window.
At 25 ft that could be awkward and a bit of a pain.

Cheers for that tip Andy.
I think I will go for the vice versa.

Have a look at this Jonboy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-lCoDM3JoE

If you look at how the Wagtail works you will see that wagga holds the wagtail squeegee upside down and then flips it over so that the pad is covering the blade ready to scrub the window. Then the pad is flipped back to squeegee the window.
That is fine when using it by hand, but on a high pole it's a different matter.
Wagga has said himself that using a wagtail on a pole takes time to master, and if you watch some of his other vids you will see has has modified his wagtail he uses on a pole with cable ties so that the pad flips from the top instead of the bottom.
That's why I reckon you will be better off with the unger vice versa for the job you mentioned.

In my opinion they're all the same, apart from the colours and the type of applicator pad they come with. But most people wouldn't be able to tell them apart as far as i'm concerned and i have several of them. Whichever one you choose you will need a cranked angle adapter for high level pole work.

So some reckon that you can get the hang of a wagtail on a pole?
I think I might go for the easier option and get a vice/versa.  ;D

I'm not trying to put you off getting a wagtail, infact i recommend you do get one they're great and i wouldn't be without mine. All i would say is that they are not a miracle cure for high internals by them selves. I'm just thinking about you buying one to do these high internals and it doesn;t work for you and you end up just doing what you could of done with a ordinary applicator and blade on a pole.

I've got a visa versa and I'm not fond of it tbh.
I always used to put a scrum over the end to get rid of the lines.
Took ages didn't like it

All these replies just make me realise how we have come to take for granted how much easier high level exterior cleaning has become since wfp.
This high rise internal stuff might do my head in  ;D
I think I will get myself a wagtail (I am sure it will come  in really handy for loads of work) and just use ordinary squeegees and applicators on my pole for the really high stuff.
