van mounted system
« on: April 02, 2013, 09:07:57 pm »
Hi chaps,

Which ones of you guys, that have gone for a van mounted system, have chosen a system that you can fill up on the van ie just fill up with tap water and off you go or have chosen a static version ie one that sits in the garage and then fill up your tank on the van with pure water from the garage?

Just trying to get my head round the best and most cost efficient way of doing this, i am currently a sole trader by the way and will probs go for a 500 litre tank on board the van.

I'm not being tight but the cost of these things are pretty expensive, looks like i could possibly get my own bits abd set up my own rather than have one fitted, which seems to hike up the price substantially.

Any comments much appreciated fellas - thanks in advance.

Steve

We have a van mounted 4040RO set up, there's 2 of us so if one of us is off the other can still clean windows (We live 15 miles apart). Plus neither of us wanted an IBC to hide in the garden/garage

Who ever has the van just connects to tap and leave it running over night, flow stops when tank is full, then a full tank in the morning ready for work.

Either method is fine though its what ever suits you.
Oooooo that is shiny!!

Depends if you need ro or not. What's your tds. If its high then you will need ro. I went for the van mounted system with ro and resin filters in the van, just connect to outside water tap and a drain fill in a few hours after work, unplug and off you go in the morning.

Ive got a van mount i built for under £500.
My TDS is 100 and i fill up from a garden hose then pump the water through twin 11L DI's.

Sorry to jump on steve's bandwagon but I am in the same boat. If you get my drift!
I am quite interested in your parts/price list. Could you email it across to me please?

My first van was a DIY setup and It served me well, however I found when collecting and driving to and from jobs there was far to much weight, and was costing me Fuel etc.
So I bought a new van and all I have in there now is hose reel, poles, pump, battery and 400ltr tank.
I have my DIY setup in my garage constantly making water (in the winter it doesn't freeze) and a transfer pump.
On collection days I simply use my transfer pump to empty the van tank and then there is hardly any weight in my van

if your tap tds is good then DI only is quick, easy and less hassle.

i simply connect transfer hose from tap to DI and run straight into my tank via lid after days work.takes about an hour to purify 400L with the water going slow through DI.

I simply have a 350L tank ratchet strapped down in back of van connected to a pumpbox with reel and 100m of thermobore and 2 barrels to take me up to 400L.

£800-£900 for my set up then £1400 on 3 carbon poles/brushes etc
price higher/work harder!

DI resin will last longer if you fill your tank with tap water then pump through the di to the reel, because of the reduced flow through the di vessel.
Once the TDS rises add another di after the first one with fresh resin that will make the resin last even longer because its pre-filtering through the used resin.
Once TDS rises on the second di vessel put fresh resin in the first di them swap them round, if you get what I mean ;D
This way your resin will last at least twice as long. ;D

My setup is the following,
200gpd ro system was about 150 with a inc tank at 50 quid a transfer sub pump and pipe another 40
400litre flat tank 150
100 psi pro pump of eBay and a 10 amp own and 12v switch for a controler moanted in a box 55
hoselock 20 quid reel with 100m of 6mm microbore and all pipes and fittings conectors altogether about 75
as for you battery suply get one from a scrap yard and run a wire from the positive on the van bat to the system bat same with the negative this will contantly trickle charge the system and will never need touching mine has been running like this maintinence free for 2 years
