good news on VAN MOT!
« on: March 06, 2013, 06:55:36 pm »
my van was in the garage for MOT this morning(13 year old kangoo with 136,000 miles on the clock).i did roughly 2,500 miles in it over the last year.350L in the back every day, sometimes 400L!I thought i might need a bit of welding doing as bodywork starting to rust!

ive had this van for nearly 3 years with no speedliner/protectocote etc in the back(just rubber mats)..........and err......!a couple of little niggles.....headlights/drivers seat and a bulb! ;D ;D ;D

£110 for MOT and little jobs that they will sort!ill be picking it up at 10 am tomorrow.

well happy! ;D ;D ;D ;D

ill have another van next year but i must say this van has been a good trusty little thing!i have had a new clutch, exhaust and back axle during the first few months but apart from that its been a good workhorse! ;D ;D ;D

best wishes to you all

i would never buy a new van as i dont do the miles to warrant it.all my work is within 10 miles of home.most within 6 miles very compact.i also only use mine for work as i have a car for leisure.

i will be buying a newer van though next time!this one still got some working life left in it yet though!lol. ;D ;D ;D ;D

picked van up this morning.just filled tank up.just about ready for an afternoons cleaning now! ;) :) :)

best wishes to you all

It would be interesting to compare the cost of a new van over a year to the cost of running one like Dazmond and myself.

Cost of everything except fuel and days lost etc. What's yours Scrimble?

mines not very much sunshine cleaning.

£15 a week fuel

£300-£400 a year for repairs say.

£220 road tax

£400 insurance

£55 MOT

no days lost due to not working flat out every day.

i try and keep van costs down as much as possible and spend my money on decent poles/hoses etc.

i've wasted thousands over the years repairing old vans thats why i decided to buy new, i got a really good deal and i'm so glad that i did it, no mot's for 3 years, warrenty,  etc

imo its well worth it, with old vans they have all been thrashed by people, not looked after and when they get old the repair bills start coming, wasting time not working it all mounts up

i would never by another used van again

I'm very happy for you.

How does it compare price wise?

The van I have was owned by a customer who averaged 3k miles per year and serviced at my local garage so not thrashed at all.

ive had newer vans which caused me more trouble so i went old again, but choose carfully which is why i only have toyota . its been serviced every 6,000 no breakdowns whatsoever not even a blown bulb. This van has made my profit margin better and second van comming soon , will also be a toyota.
