Beware Belgian Wilton!
« on: March 08, 2010, 07:01:15 pm »
I went to the local carpet suppliers over the weekend to browse, and came across what i would describe as the classic "Belgian Wiltion" or as was described to me at the NCCA.
The pattern was repeated on the reverse side, BUT attached to this carpet was a note saying that this was a "special non shrinkable carpet" and guaranteed it would not shrink. All i thought was if i came across this carpet in a customers house i would still be very very careful :-\

i'd of asked the saleperson for a technical explanation as to why this type of bw would not shrink.

If this is a valid claim, I would suspect that the jute weft has been replaced with a synthetic yarn. I know Ulster Carpets do this with some of their wool weaves.  The carpet, however, has probably been treated with an adhesive or bonding agent so that the tufts of yarn are not easily displaced (synthetic with synthetic)  I don't know this for sure, I'm just trying to apply some logical reasoning to the claim.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

As with Belgium's Guys - keep the moisture down to a minimun, works for me  ;)

Last year i fitted a 4" waste pipe with cable ties to the inside roof of the van i carry gripper inside the tube and if not happy with the fitting on the bw i use the gripper and charge for it. keep the moisture down and go for it.
