Floor tile grout re-colour
« on: February 08, 2013, 10:09:39 am »
Ive a job around 30sqm of porcelain floor tile the customer wants cleaned esp the grout which was grey and now black from her cleaning it.

She wants it colour sealed in grey.  What does the grey options look like compared to natural grout grey?

How long do you think it would take to re-colour an area this size, 60x60 tiles.  And how much recolour would I need.

Is recolur next to porcelain a problem with colour bleed into the tile?

THanks
Mark

Hi mark i just done some porcelain tiles in a club over 20years of emulsified dirt look at pics in the topic below and Kev Martin will no doubt tell you to do the same method it get's the grout back to how it was then put a sealer on if they want.

Kev will advise you more mate.

Thanks but in this case she wants the grout pristine and I think re-colour is the only way.

Im just concerned what the grey re-colour looks like compared with the natural colour of the grout.

Hi Mark,

This is pretty straight forward profitable work. We have carried this out many times for clients and porcelain is one of the easiest ones to do. You shouldnt have to worry about bleed, but as always, a test patch is advised.

Not only for your own peace of mind but also to get client confirmation they like the colour now its on the floor/wall and wish you to proceed with the whole area.

It has always been the AquaMix range of product I have used in the past without any problems.

Thanks.

How have your found the grey colours?

Are they very artifical looking?

It will not look artificial it only starts to look artificial if it is applied to thickly.

Once you get the grout clean you could apply Aqua Mix Enrich N seal which is a colur enhancing sealer and this will have two benefits.

1.  It will even all the grout colour out and make it all a darker colour (The more coats you apply the darker it will go).
2.  It will seal the grout.

my only caveat is do a test area first and make sure it does not cause too much of a colour change on the porcelain.  This is best done on a spare piece if they have it!
