Tips on saving water
« on: January 18, 2013, 02:51:27 pm »
Alright lads need some advice on my technique for cleaning wfp as I'm still going through serious amount of water.
I scrub all round the frame using 4 agitations on each section. Then I go round where the frame meets the glass, again 4 agitations on upper, lower and sides.
Then 4 agitations in a w motion across the pane. Finish off with rinse with brush then rinse off the glass.
I know I probably need to cut back on this as the water situation is holding me back but I'm getting perfect results and don't want the standard to slip.
Can yous post your technique please?

Cheers

Davy

You being very cautious David but that's a good thing after a few cleans the customer won't even look at the windows!

As for technique i start top of frame not above it but where frame and glass meet scrub side to side, then go up and down glass once, back to top where said rinse making zig zags moving down glass.

was using fan jets but now gone back to pencils, Gardiners sell 1mm pencil jets which use less water.

I now gone back to vikan sill brush also, bigger quicker (imo) and easy to sweep of exces water of window sill.

I have been wfp 7 years.
Oh with frames i clean if visiblily dirty especially upstairs.

Lee.

for got to say aqua-dapter with either fan or 1mm pencils could save 30% on water usage.

Do you  need to save water. I try not to as I find once you start saving water the quality of your work goes.

Don't want to do the debate of "we really should clean all the frames as well when you are wfp" as I never did when I was traditional and didn't increase the price when I swapped over to wfp. Anyway, I place the brush on the top of the glass where it meets the frame, go side to side 4 times then down 2 times on the same glass to the bottom then swap over to the rest of the glass 2 times, I find rinsing makes hardly any difference, but I do make sure I have a really good flow over the glass on all scrubs.
Never get complaints but I personally feel it is the flow which makes the difference. Have a tap but have just ordered the NEW AQUA-DAPTER mark 3 xL. All helps to save on time and water. 650l tank used 2 workers never run out.
Hope it helps !!

i am sorry but if you want to do a good job, you MUST clean the frames! how can you be happy about your work if the glass is clean but the frames are dirty?

Cheers Lee n chez, gona try and use your techniques to see how I get on.
Is the aqua dapter like an on off trigger for saving water?
Looking to save on water smithie as I'm running out now some days, was ok to start off with but as my round has grown I want to be a bit more cautious with water to get more done in the day. I have had the same opinion as yourself, always plenty of washing and rinsing so that my work was of a good standard but I want to tone it down slightly to get more done. Just worried that in my quest to get more houses done, my work standard might get sloppy and lose customers.
May get the pole out on my windows and try out a few different things, all part of the learning curve!

David here's link (yes trigger, but a bit more advanced ;) )

I do clean frames but tend to stay of above top frame and vents unless visibily dirty, if i do em allow dripping time as will spoil panes with spotting.

yep 1-1.5 ltr flow rate.

I think getting the balance between doing a good job and being conservative with your water is wise, especially if you have small car/van.

David i use pump box ( from daqua, cheapest i found around £250, use to use freedom trolley)

100 metre reel and 6mm microbore gardiners/ 22 clx pole 30 ft fish pole (still :-[)

aquadapter.

Water usage for me 6-8 barrels (200 ltrs=25ltr barrels)

Say 200ltrs tops is a good day earnings wise, i do doors by hand.
I have 1mm pencil jets from gardiners which Alex kindly give to me; ashamed to say not put in my brush yet :-[

Got time now snowed in :'(

Ps you could save water also if trad downstairs/ i use to but false economy works out probably the same if you run out of water and finish earlier than dragg out with downstairs by hand.(imo)

Sorry not getting into the debate of frames again as there are too many about this on the forum. But very happy with my work, clean the glass, customer pays no complaints. Over 600 custys 28 years in total 4 being wfp. We all work and keep both happy. Just have to do what works for each as individuals i suppose! Cheers.
