Website issue
« on: December 27, 2012, 01:15:18 pm »
Hi guys,

Hope you all had a great Christmas.
I am having an issue with my website, basically have a guy taking care of it but just looking for second opinion.
I know a few on here are up to date with Google changes etc.

My web site dropped dramatically in google rankings recently followed by my website being rebuilt, because according to my IT it would have cost more to work on updating the old one. Also he says it takes up to 6 weeks after the new site has been indexed by google for it to regain its old rankings. However sometning tells me it's not going to happen as it continues dropping.

Here is my new website by the way www.cleaningbros.co.uk

Any thoughts on the subject very much appreciated.

Cheers

Emil

Sounds about right to me, had one of my sites drop off a cliff in a similar experience, took about 3/4 months to get to the top of the rankings like the last site. You are starting from scratch as far as your online content is concerned, so it will take time.

Hi Deep Cleaning,

Thanks for your input. Maybe worth mentioning it's still the same domain and same content, its just the platform that website has been built on that was changed or something like that  ;D

So is your site solidly on 1st page now?

Cheers

Hi Emil

I think you have a typo on your home page...

" Weather it be domestic cleaning or commercial cleaning we will be there to help"

Think you'll find the correct spelling (when presenting alternatives) is "whether" not "weather" (sun and rain etc).

Is the site EXACTLY the same (pages, file names, content etc)?

Also he says it takes up to 6 weeks after the new site has been indexed by google for it to regain its old rankings

Why?

Why not have the "Services" page as your home page? It would make navigation a lot easier.

To be honest, if everything is the same, it could be another Google update.

I was thinking the same, your service page looks better than your home page.

Rog, thanks for pointing this out to me. Its not the only typo I'm afraid. I'll be looking at this an other issues in the very beginning of the NY.
Gary, the new site replicates 95% of the old one. Home page used to show all services as you suggest, but IT suggested services go to horizontal menu to help easy navigation :-\
Content wise, site is the same.

Cheers

Emil, your site at the moment is made with Joomla, I can only guess your
web people are changing it to Wordpress. Even then the difference is
negligible.

Ask them exactly what they are doing and why, how much are they
charging you for this 'update'?

Even if everything is pretty much the same , then Google rankings can change when sites are updated or platforms swapped. Some platforms are more Google friendly than others. Wordpress as mentioned in a previous reply is very Google friendly with lots of stuff built in to make it visible to Google.

Google is a perculiar beast that takes into account many different variables. So even time of search could potentially affect positioning.

It is not unheard fo for websites to drop dramatically and then rise again for almost no apparent reason. There is NO rule that it could take months , it could equally be days or hours. And it is important that you influence this as best you can in order for you to reap the benefits of a website.

There are a number of things that you perhaps need to check have been done on your behalf

Has new site been verified and a new sitemap submitted ? ( YOUR WEBMASTER WILL KNOW THIS !!) This is an important step because if Google doesn't know the new site exists and whats in it..it wont ever find it .

Also attention needs to be paid to "SEO", Search Engine Optimisation. these are tweaks that make the site appear when a potential customer looks for carpet cleaning or whatever. Keywords such as "carpet cleaning" need to be in your content BUT not too much or Google wont like it!!

You can reach the first page of Google but a little work needs doing regularly to achieve this..dont get sucked into paying 100s monthly for it.

If you are prepared to do a bit of this work yourself by learning basic stuff then it can really help your back pocket !!

I concur with Chrisjo,

Pre Panda update I reigned number 1 in organics for the holy grail search terms. Post Panda update my rankings dropped 2 places then a week later number 1 again. I made no changes to my site so I can only assume the SEO and other signals i use Google likes or my competitor websites are using the wrong signals altogether.

Good Luck with your rankings.
