help pricing up a pressure washing job please
« on: December 11, 2012, 07:44:54 pm »
hi folks

have been asked to put a price into a local farm for pressure washing the pig pens out every 22 weeks, one unit is a thousand square meters and the other is around 250 square meters, we have to do the walls as well to a height of 6ft, I think most of the pens are 10 meter square, all detergent will be supplied by the farm and they will provide water to top up the bowser, gonna go look at it in the next few days and pull forward my purchase of a petrol pressure washer by a couple of months.

anyone have any experience of this type of work, I'm eager to get it as will be employing in march, just not sure how to price this, I'm guessing 3-4 days work

any help greatly appreciated

Graham

the smell is very bad ppe a must
the pens we had was very low due to keeping the heat in so it will get ur back after a while
the pig muck sticks like glue though

Had pigs myself for a while, there is nothing like the smell of pig sh*t,just hope your mrs lets you back in the house, have you not asked yourself why the farmer is not doing it??,very crafty them farmers you know, think of a price and double it and some pork thrown in for a sweetner, you will need the proper gear, especially the air fed mask i would think. ;D ;D

get a petrol pressure washer of at least 3000psi cobra are very good. Make sure you get a turbo nozzle for the lance (also called a dirt blaster)

price wise thats big and will be filthy but the money on jetting should be very good. We have been doing jetwashing for 5 years and on an area total of 1250 square meters I  would say £2 - £2.50 a meter
The best way to predict the future is to create it.

We do a lot of drives and patios.  We charge £3 per square metre and we will not have pig muck flying up around our ear holes!  I would be wanted at least £5 per square. Spend good money on your pressure washer if you have not bought one already.  It may pay for itself on this job alone compared to a cheapy.

Hello,i`ll give you a ring on the no`s on your website tommorrow, easier than typing on here. There was a time when power washing pig muck was nearly my specialist subject.I`ve got probably 5 years in on 3 different farms and probably 1 day of each of those weeks on the end of a pressure washing lance.

i have cleaned abbatoirs including cattle and pig pens for years, you will find if you can use hot it will be much easier, depending on how long it is since it was cleaned the muck can be very hard and even a turbo nozzle can struggle in some areas, my advice is to pre wet everything thoroughly as this helps soften the surface when you come to clean it.
The chemical they provide will work best if applied by a foamer as this helps it stick to the surface longer and work better, this again should be applied and left for about twenty minutes before cleaning off, on completion they will probably want area treating with a sanitizer but this is very simple and quick to do.
Dont underestimate time needed to clean railings and ensure you clean under each bar thouroughly, they can look clean but if you run your hand along each bar it is surprising how easy it is to miss the underneaths.
If i was you i would wear a paper mask too otherwise i gaurantee you will be eating pig poo at some time during the job, we had one employee got a pig hair lodged in his throat from this kind of work it became infected and had to be removed at hospital so from then on all wore paper masks doing this task.
There will probably be long drains that need lifting and cleaning on completion this is often a shovel and wheelbarrow job and dont be surprised if the odd rat or two jump out on you.
If you need to discuss further give me a call
