Its up to you, I've been trading 6+ years and never had a card system, just someone else to cream off a few % on every job for me.

I've had a mobile terminal for almost a year.

Its got me a couple of jobs I might not have had otherwise, but not really worked out cost efficient overall.

Hector,
That's because you're a tight fisted git ;D

CC terminlas are a must in this day and age, not only do they save you the risk of cheques bouncing and having to trudge to the bank, but many people use them when they won't be present at a job and others use their credit, rather than debit cards, which leads to bigger jobs with the cost spread on their credit card.

Simon.

Had mine from Payatrader since May and guess what?
I still haven't taken a card payment.
95% of transactions so far have been cash the rest cheque.
CASH IS KING.

I've not needed a card system so far.  I'm not going to pay for one either...
New technology will very soon provide a free option for us, I think.

Bank transfer is a great alternative and I've got a bit of a spiel going to get them to do it while I'm still on site.

I think in time the terminal units will come down in price. I thought with the termination of cheques that the cc terminals would become more popular and therefor cheaper but I dont think they are getting rid of cheques anymore?

Its not a huge amount, just annoying that you have to pay money to accept money!  :(

You need to let people know you have the facility to take card payments it's a big selling point for me as people will just throw it on the card, took over a grand in card payments the last 2 weeks

I have been using a mobile terminal for around 3 years now i don't accept credit cards unless they are willing to pay the % . i do nearly 75%of transactions with it and hardly ever receive i cheque.  where it works very well for me is that i do a lot of second homes holiday cottages where the owner calls you and lives miles away. i nearly always get paid over the phone for these jobs. I just enjoy the convenience tbh saves running to the bank with wods of cash and cheques coming back to you.
