swan neck on hosereel
« on: November 04, 2012, 06:52:06 am »
got my mates van kitted out yesterday all running well and looking good . except one small problem . but big enough to stop him working monday . put the reel together and screwed the brass swan neck on but the 8mm hose will not fit on . the swan neck is a lot fatter and the hose will not be forced on . gonna phone the supplier monday to send out the right fitting. but just to get him working any suggestions . weve already tried putting the braided hose on the swan neck and then shoving the 8mm inside it and holding on with a jubilee clip. i thought that would work , but it just stops the flow when it gets to the 8mm and backs tha water up . any ideas . cheers barry .

Barry you could try nipping to Halfords to get a Hose Reducer and a couple of jubilee clips.
It won't be a perfect fit but you might be able to make it work temporarily.
You might be able to fudge something together with garden hose connected to the hosereel fitting and then to the 8mm hose from what is available.

hi mate, have you tried putting the hose in a cup of hot water for a few mins, then introduce it to the fitting..?

yeh we tried that . its the wrong size swwan neck . the only hose that fits it is the large strong braided stuff . its odd they put that fitting in .cos we ordered the hose and reel together . we got it from pure freedom and just had a look on there website and it says the swan neck will fit both sizes .of hose . the 8mm and the larger one , how is that p-ossible . unless me and my mate are both dummies i just dont get it .no sarky replies  ;D ;D

You need something similar to this
 http://www.purefreedom.co.uk/metal-straight-18-male-bsp-thread-x-516-8mm-hose-tail-p-604.html?page=2

It screws inside the swan neck. Just give them a call on monday.

in case the halfords thing don't work I'm just trying to think of a way so you don't lose a days work..,is there a way of tightening normal hose onto the pump, then you could temporally use normal hose from pump to reel until u get the proper components

thanks for the replies . mark that is exactly what we need thanks for the link but it should have come with the reel and hose . but will bell them . just been to my local halfords in dudsville to get a temp hose reducer but all out of stock . so my mate has resigned himself to a couple more days on the ladders . but thanks anyway . cheers barry

find a local airline place they will have them.
the replacement could take a week to turn up.

Halfords also have push fitting reducers.
