can anyone talk me through the difference (results wise) of using calcium hypochlorite as opposed to sodium hypochlorite? I'm aware one is generally sold as a liquid and needs to be diluted and one is sold as powder/granules or pellets, but just wondered what the other differences are?

Having used neither before i wanted to test it removing grown in moss/lichens. Tried a small test are here and used Sodium Hypochlorite. Washed first, applied solution, then rinsed off. Was quite impressed with the results.




It seemed to struggle with these left over black spots and i wondered if Calcium Hypochlorite might be the answer?

What strength Hypo did you use and how long dwell time did you give it?

15% diluted roughly 3 to 1, and left it down for about 10 mins or so.

Re clean the paving, apply mix at 1:1 and leave to dwell for 30 mins, don't let it dry out on the surface, so if it look's like it is drying re-apply so more mix, After dwell time pressure wash off, you should not see virtually no lichen, but from your photos, some of that stuff looks very ingrained.

Yes it is a lot weaker, plus I think it comes in powder form

The longer you can leave the hypo on for the better when you have difficult staining.
