Idiot question coming up..

My first pole hose has split near the metal male connector (to hoselock fitting , bought from gardiners*) it has a metal o ring around it clamping it to the barb and although I tried removing it with a screwdriver, in the end I just cut it off and fitted a plastic male connector instead, without any o rings but just the hose over the barb. Is this ok and is this the best option as if it goes again obviously time is money and I wouldn't want to be messing around with the metal one.

the ring is crimped, so you can't remove it and re use.

what i do is put the barb in the hose as normal, then get a small piece of garden hose about an inch rap that around the outside of the hose and barb. then use a standard jubilee clip

So are you saying the crimped one is for the bin now, or can you eventually get it off to use your method?

pair of pliers each side of the O clip and twist in opposite direction and the just pop off, but no you cant reuse them

Cheers but its only crimped once, I'll try and hack saw it tomorrow. Do most peeps use a metal male connector as opposed to plastic, as I have heard of the metal ones burring if dragged on the ground too much.

A hacksaw will usually get them off very well. If you find that the pole hose is staying on without a connector then there should be no need to replace.

Both plastic and metal connector will burr if they are dragged along the ground when not connected.

Personally I find the Hozelock style connector to be too large and heavy so I use the much more compact EZ-Snap type connectors.
