Biggest job so far
« on: September 26, 2012, 04:09:56 pm »
What's the biggest job you've ever done?

I was in the middle of a 3hr job yesterday morning when I got a call from a fairly large (regional) domestic cleaning company asking me if I could 'help them out' with a HWE job at a golf club, today, urgent, as their machine had broken down! I asked how big the carpet was, they mumbled something about 10yds... they didn't argue my prices (per sqm).

I arrived, as planned, at 2pm to find it was a massive wedding venue, measuring 200+ sq metres!  I did the job and crawled home at 20:30 after a 10+ hour day with no break, no food, nothing.

I hope the cleaning company pays my invoice!  ...and I hoping I get a commercial contract out of this.

I hope you know them well enough to do it off spec like that, a late shout like that would flag up a few issues for me.

Biggest job ? done quite a few, 26000 sq ft springs to mind but probably done larger, we used to be used by Balfor Beatty for their carpet problems so a lot of large projects.

as a start-up I had to take the risk with them...
26000 sq ft !!! I assume not in a single day, and not with a portable?
Blimey.

Since July this year - early days - hence all the dumb questions from me.

;D No not in a single day or even a single week, because of hold up's other trades etc there is a lot of standing around time.

Portables are used, not one but several, along with Texatherm where required.

I guess you charge a day rate for that type of service.

I'm happy with my HWE system, but can see a burning need for a low moisture option for commercial (and some domestic) jobs.  I'm considering my options with this, at this time - more expense!

Rather sooner than later get that rotary.

200 meters square is pretty small for commercial, you could have knocked that over in 2 hours given it was straight forward.

I think it would have taken me at least 1hr to vacuum - but I didn't need to do that bit as the owners had already done it.

Personally, I tend to revacuum anyway.

10 hour day with no food sounds awful mate. Today I was 1 hour late for lunch and felt like I was gonna pass out!

Do you think it worth the risk? I am playing with the idea too, but I am a bit worried it won't last.

Biggest job i ever did in one shift was approx 2500 sqm of carpets in a night club.  Carpets were minging, we were using a Prochem Performer 800A (top of the range at the time) We used dual wand for 12 hours and single wand for 6 hours. Myself and one other guy on site.

Biggest job we over took on was a office complex,  approx 5000sqm of carpet.   Two teams of 2 men.

Job started at 6pm on a Friday evening finished on the Sunday afternoon.

Team One Friday 6pm - Saturday 6am
Team Two Saturday 6am - Saturday 6pm
Team One Saturday 6pm - Sunday 6am
Team Two Sunday 6am - Sunday 2pm.

I did five floors in an office on Monday and it's  still working ;) but seriously you could buy second hand and take the same risk it may last a year or 6 months

Our biggest ever job was 16,289m2 (just under 200,000sqft) of Flotex, took two of us over 3 weeks (7 days a week, 12 hr days) to do it
