How to get commercial jobs?
« on: September 22, 2012, 04:54:40 pm »
Hey there,

How do you get commercial jobs - offices, schools, restaurants?

I wish I had few like this on some regular bases to stabilise the income.

Thanks

Johnny

Having you tried writing a letter to them?  i.e. look up all the nurseries on yell.com in your area and then write a tailored letter to them.  Got a website, has it got a commercial carpet cleaning page? Has the page been optimized for commercial carpets?

thanks for all the input. Len I promise that I will never take the job you had first :). I have tried nice brochures and sent them out to local schools, but no response at all. Would you say visiting them in person could be a good idea?

That advice would cost me about £100k/year.
I always pitch it that we are making them look good not show them up.
Simple fact is they have it bundled into their contract and it's an absolute pain for them.
They don't have the skills or the equipment.

Here's a 7 step process I've just perfected:

1. I'm looking for a pasty 'cos I'm hungry at lunchtime.
2. By chance notice I'm passing a letting agency.
3. Walks in on impulse.
4. Says 'Hi' and explains to receptionist I'm looking for work opportunities.
5. Manager pokes head around back-office door to see what's going on.
6. I give manager my business card, and a smile.
7. Two days later I collect keys to rental property from above office to do a first quote...

Beginners luck?
