Speedometer Repairs

Did you know that the Speedometer is now part of the MOT

Has anyone tried Companies that claim to repair them for £85 to £150 instead of £600 for a new one?

What problem are you having, Ian?

The test will check presence and condition of speedo - not operation.

I'm guessing if you've been quoted £600 then you've got a digital speedo?

Ian, the only experience I have is with a refurb on a speedo for an MGB, which was about £80.00

If it is digital, is it not more likely to be a sensor problem?

How do they check it for the MOT?

Not sure went to Garage to get it fixed  and was told its now part of MOT . Had Electronics checked and had it confirmed problem is at  instrument cluster but they do not repair them and if I went scrap route they are about £80 and i might end up paying for removal and fitting for duff one and same applies if I go to one of these instrument repair places

I have a real problem as I need MOT like today as I am meant to be hospital for a month found a place that does repair them 70 miles away in Yarmouth  but as I am on standbuy for bed hard to book job as its turned out I could have gone today but did not know it 5 days ago.

So was wondering if anyone had similar problem with Spedo not working and getting MOT

The new testable components* are subject to a 'bedding in' period during which any defects found in these components will be advisory only. ;)

Because he's got a mechanic who can fix it at a reduced labour rate, and provide a receipt for your tax return, amirite?

Yeah something like that  ;)

Only trouble is with the "reduced labour rate" im viewed as a nuisance instead of a valued customer.

Surely it doesn't take that long to mot your van, lets think:

1)Print MOT
2)erm...that's it.

Len bit puzzled where does it say advisory

I was told not all stations notice might just risk £30 on Monday and then get it fixed when I am set free
