Hate to show my ignorance, I presume the pipe is an exhaust that channels the air to an outlet , if the flange /pipe is removed then the air will just find it way out of various places, could you also tell me what the 5.7 means and how could i find out what my existing motor is.

The vac tube is there for machines that use a hose directly connected to the motor  ....

Instead of doing this , some machines place the motors on a manifold with a gasket , in this case the tube will be sticking out too much so u need one without a tube ..

just open up your machine and yank out the motor and see what it looks like ...
id say u need one without a tube  :)

this is an example of a manifold ... the vac sits on top of the large hole ... and the hose is connected to the upright outlet pipe ...

just in case i didn't make it clear above ...  the vac tube is the suction tube  , the side horn thing is the ' exhaust '
so the suction tube is connected to the waste tank creating vacuum .

I not sure what 28 refers to ... could be 2800w over all ? not sure ...
I wouldn't like to say what are the best vacs are people have different experiences of various vacs ...  but the one in the ebay link seem fine ...  they are  Ametek , just from a different Ametek production plant as the accessory planet ones ..

If you were asking me , what is the best 5.7 motor , these guys have a couple as powerful as a 6.6 , but you'd have to import them from the states   :)
