My Aunts Carpet
« on: June 10, 2012, 04:39:07 pm »
Hello All just looking for some info on the following.

My Aunti has just had her carpets cleaned today from a company she got a cheap leaflet from. She bassically called my mum up complaining about how bad the clean was. I popped round and took these photos, she asked if I can do her a favour and have a go at the carpet again. Its landing, stairs & bedroom carpet.

Firstly they have not vacuumed at all there is still loose rubbish under the bed. When I went round she said they finished about 2 hours ago but the carpet was soaking wet still.

I think the marks on the stairs are draught marks. the guy said it was just wear & tear but to me looks like draught marks.

I use Prochem products but not sure what to use as I havent been going long & not done these carpets yet.

Any help would be appreciated. I think the photos have uploaded.

Ask her what the hell she was expecting paying peanuts for one of these obvious cowboys.

Also ask her why she didn't call you instead!

No doubt she will want it doing for free................................. I don't think so. A carpet cleaner in the family ... and she still goes for the cheap leaflet, what has happened to this industry. I would certainly atleast name and shame. Who the hell in there right mind can call themself a carpet cleaner leaving a mess like that.

Mind you... and this is 100% true. I went to clean a hall with an attached dining room in Plymouth the other day. The customer had a guy in about 1 month ago to do the work but half way through the job just left. Heres the best bit... he removed half the underlay. The customer has never been able to get hold of him. The carpet has also shrunken atleast 6 inches both ends.

I would go in with Powerburst or Shockwave and an acidic rinse. Sollval spotter and Craftex rust remover if needed, not forgetting the blower as will need to be dryed asap. Then to finish I would make sure I leave a card. But thats me.

Gippos mate gippos or to be politically correct 'Travellers.' In your area blah blah, only £36 blah blah.
I'd be livid with any member of my family who went down this route.

Did a pre-tenancy clean approx a month ago, the landlady had the carpets "professionally cleaned" and the result was much worse than this. When she complained they told her to replace the carpets because thats the best they could acheive (no refund of course). She asked the estate agent to recommend a flooring company to do the job, they recommended us as "last chance" option before she goes ahead with the replacement.
She was extremely happy with the results, saved her a bit of time and money.

How can these companies survive? Surely not making much money on repeat business  ???

They don't need to.
£50
Everything done superfast, sod the quality and move onto the next one.
6 or 7 of those a day and they'll earn what most on here earn by doing 2 a day but properly
Enterprise had this down to a tee, but you could have a slightly better clean if you paid more

Is this a before or after picture !!!!   Looking at the carpet is it by any chance an old foam back carpet by any chance or a hessian carpet with underlay which has carbonised .Without having a good look at it ,I would suspect the backing has been worn and damaged and is like a powder and no matter what you do with it ie vacuum or cleaning the powder will be pulled through the carpet. Some fitters will take the underlay over the nosing of the stair and some will cut of on the tread if the latter then it will weaken the carpet on the nose and the underlay in turn will carbonise ,or the carpet may have got very wet at some stage and weakened the underlay or backing causing it to powder up,this is evident on your pics.If it is foam back which I dont think it is as the design looks too new ,but if yes then the backing will be totaly powder by now as they were outlawed years ago because of this reason.I have fitted many a stair carpet where this has happened .The problem is the customer gets it cleaned because its dirty which in turn makes it worse etc etc ,I would suspect your problem lies beneath your carpet so would have a look see ,but hey I could be way off the mark mate !!!

Yeah like someone else I thought these were the before piccies

The only sensible thing for you to do is report these people to the local council/authority trading standards department - that is the only thing you can do quickly and easily - nothing may happen about this instance but if a pattern emerges (more reports of bad performance by this company/individual) they will investigate - its their job!

Nosings like these with this carpet are a pain but not impossible by any means - thats our job - the area outside the bathroom or whatever is shocking - whatever she paid it was 100% too expensive!
