New school to do Monday
« on: October 26, 2012, 05:42:01 pm »
For those who do schools-do you trad or wfp?

Windows and frames are really mucky and the panels of glass are  big. It's a special needs school so all the windows are quite bad. I'm just curious to see what you guys do?

This is quite a new school (about 3 years old), with really dirty framework. Would it be better to trad it or wfp just the windows? I use a pure freedom hot system and it seems a waste to not bother and trad it all

If you want to do a proper job then wfp the lot, including frames and sills.

As my son goes to the school, I'll reserve comment. He does worse than window licking!!!

Hi Steve

Have you got the 9KW pure freedom heater? how do you get on with power issues and maintaining your batteries so you can keep the heater working all day?

why did you buy the hot system if not to use it?..i would of thought that job would be the very reason to invest in a hot water system ?

WFP the lot as Ian says.

It might take longer to get a good result, but it depends what they want and expect.

The first time we did the local school we had to prewash the windows with a chemical cleaner, then wash and rinse a second time. Didn't have to do that the next time, just once over WFP.

I dont agree,

the problem with schools is that the frequency is always terrible , if you are lucky you get a 6 monthly with schools but usually once a year if that.

Why waste all that time in wfp'ing, waiting for windows to dry then checking for runs , then doing them again / glass only / wiping runs or spots with scrim etc.

I say WFP glass only upstairs and trad downstairs nice and quick , get your money and come back when they are filthy once more and do the same,

IF and its a big IF the school is quarterly or better frequency then i agree to wfp the whole lot, though i bet the frequency is not regular and will make little or no difference to your annual turnover, hence dont waste your valuable time!

Hi Simon

I had the 9 kw heater installed this time last year and used it for the whole school. I always charge the battery every night with the charger tat of supplied me-I think it was about £70.

Took me all day, but it did spot quite badly. Hadn't been cleaned in 6 years.

As rogue trader said, I had to go back over the whole school?, removing all the spots

They want me to do high level in feb, but I'm gonna dip out as it is a load of agg for not much more tan I would normally earn in a day

The heater came,m into its own today though

Basildon's in Norn Irn?  ;D

Wfp all of it. Frames and all - but carefully go back over the glass as each side stops dripping.
It's a game of three halves!
