Some types of upvc have a type of gasket (the seal you refer to) that is absolutely soaked in oil when they make the windows.I used to work as both a upvc fabricator and installer and its horrible stuff,i have some jobs that when i scrim edge the glass after trad it leaves a black stain on the scrims every month.

Sounds like the double glazed unit seal has failed? is there a misting/water between the panes?
I have been called back to a few then pointed out its their glass thats gone.
Then got that job too ;D

No misting ,just some oil effect that runs evenly along the glass, It may just need a real good scrub rinse, scrub rinse ,but font wanna lose customer so will trad it tommorow and try again next time

a window has 2 seals the one is on the beading that keeps the glass and the other is the glass seal between the 2 sheets of glass. This seal is the one that concerns the water between the glass and is the misty one.The one seal on each beading is stuck onto the beading and this one creates the runs that are black. One can remover these beads and clean them or even cheat to replace them. ;) ;)
