would you charge a regular for cement removal?
« on: June 06, 2012, 01:49:57 pm »
turned up at a regular customers home to find cement splashes in the conservatory and glass didn't take long to get off about 5-10 mins but i feel i should charge the customer for the the extra time it took.

if they couldn't be bothered to wash it off when it was wet why should i swallow the time taken.

what would you do  ???

Would you charge extra if it was bird poo or if someone had egged the windows? if so then charge, but if not and you are only talking 5 minutes, well!!!

Agree, dont get greedy and just call it a good turn for the day.

Some will say "charge for the hour" "money is everything" "dump em and get 20 back without cement"

You have already done the work so definitely no.

If we find something which is out of the ordinary then we always inform the customer and agree a price up front.

Its bad form to do the job then hit them with an unexpected "extra"

You could end up getting dumped and being replaced with 2 decent cleaners  ;D

I dont touch the stuff. First the worry of scatching the glass and second coz if they leave it on there when it happens they have clearly thought I wont bother lifting a finger to mantain the condition of my windows because I pay a mug to clean it for me.

Same scenario with limescale droplets when the kids spray the windows with the hose pipe and they decide to leave it to bake in the sun for a month rather than give them a wipe.

I tell them the glass has potentially been damaged and that I know someone that can restore them. If they want. Usually doesnt happen again.

If it was a good customer, well priced job, then I would just remove. And I would let them know 'oh there was some cement on the conny, av got that off for ya' im sure they wil be grateful.

I know were running businesses, not charoties, but sometimes it pays to turn an odd favour...  A customer of mine who runs a chain of shops, asked me to remove some debris out of a guttee, well, it was at the downspout, one of those old 'hoppers' turns out it was the biggest weed that god invented, I removed it for him and I said 'billy, you dont owe me anything, call it a favour'

On this occasion, the customer has turned into a very good friend, and has helped me out countless times, signed passport forms for me & family (would of cost £100 off a doctor )

I wouldn't charge extra mate - at the end of the day you're getting paid to clean their windows
Every month I do a house and the patio doors are filthy from the dog jumping up and pawing it - I've never thought about charging more

If its a decent price and they a good customers just take it on the chin fella-ill bet it's a one off occurrence anyhow  :)

5 minuits???    a bit annoying but , hey cummon? if you charge them more you risk losing years of cleans!!
gotta whey up the odds?
having said that...if it is like 15 mins of work then I would charge!
I suppose it all comes down to how much you value the customer and how much you need their custom
