Are gutter / presure washing add ons really worth it
« on: May 17, 2012, 02:59:07 pm »
So did a guttering job today was pretty bad some bits like a hanging basket all done with a gutter vac, however the job turned into a right pain in the arse there was lots of broken tile etc and a couple of tiles had dropped in the corner so ended up still having to use ladders on a couple of areas ( wouldn't have made a difference what gutter vac was used).
Having had this happen on a number of occasions i'm really beginning to think is it really worth the extra hassle not only with guttering but with pressure washing too as ive had problems with blocked drains etc with the pressure washing side of things. Ive done these extra services for a few years now and although you do earn more money per hour doing these things then window cleaning they also can be a lot more hassle then window cleaning.
On the positive side its nice as you get bigger lump sum payments then general window cleaning when getting paid eg window cleaning you get paid in £10 - £20 as with the guttering its generally £50 upwards and pressure washing £150 upwards when getting payments which helps with cash flow but just beginning to think if ive got time for this work then ive got room for more window cleaning customers, also i find myself trying to promote 3 different services when maybe its better to put all that extra focus on just the window cleaning side.
The the other reason i currently do this work is i like a change from the window cleaning now and again as it can get pretty tedious sometimes.
So rant over is there anyone who also feels like this or any of you stopped doing this work for the same reasons it is good money doing them but it is more effort then just window cleaning and i feel with total focus on the window cleaning side i could get not far off the same sort of turnover as with doing the extra add ons.

thanks for listining  ;D

Yes
Im think exactly the same as u.i choose to do the extra services because it gives you an edge over competitors.
Window cleaning is easier.
To be honest i dont get to much gutters and pressure washing jobs.

Hello!!

I was thinking the same as you today! but the other way around!!! lol I offer window cleaning, gutter cleaning and pressure washing but at the momment got so much pressure washing to do i can't keep up with it all!! today i was out window cleaning but kept thinking i could be doing a drive of two!!! The money can be better on pressure washing and gutter cleaning but in most cases its a one off, window cleaning is repeat business all year round. i think its best to offer as many service as you can, you never know what can come from a customer. With regards the problems with gutters and pressure washing, i always check the gutters and then price, any thing that might take extra time you can add extra money on the quote. gutter vacs are good but i always take ladders the two go hand in hand, sometimes i only use the ladders, sometimes just the vac, sometimes both! Pressure washing is the same, always check drainage!! its a must!! if its going to be a problem quote higher! I try and keep all jobs as simple as possible! stick with it! it will pay off!!! ;D

Simply advertise what you do, and take the jobs as they come along.... my facia cleaning, con roof cleaning etc.... will always have to pay more per hour than window cleaning... or i dont want it ...

i dont want to get poopted up for the same money as window cleaning.... eg pressure washing job at £180 would take 3 hours.... that would be worth it it.

I do 9 out of 10 gutter jobs without ladders ,i only get the ladders of if i come across a problem like
Silly covers over downpipes come off or need re seating
To much weed and growth in gutters
Downpipes blocked

Otherwise i do my best to leave ladders on van
Gives me the ump getting them off lol ;D

Price accordingly and always add on a bit as it will always take u a bit longer until u get more experience. It also good as a rest day or something different day. I personally love doing em as I ask the customer whether they want a yearly service making it an ongoing service and of course easier to do the next time!

well decided i'll stick with the guttering for now but going to stop the pressure washing and sell the pressure washing gear, i find pressure washing the one the hardest to get decent money for anymore especially for domestic as people just buy these cheap washers and are happy to do it themselves.
I have just priced 2 recently which i thought was a resonable price but both thought it was very expensive.
As for the guttering have been doing it for years now but will not promote it as much and will price even higher then i have been and going to focus more on the window cleaning side of things as i'm at the point now where i'm starting to look into taking someone on part time.
