Hi, one of my mates dads got a huge building company in my local town. Cleaned his sons windows and he instantly gave me 5 addresses to go and clean varyin in size and window types etc. Took me over a month to complete as wether has been bad and have my own round to keep up to date with. However got a phone call this morning offering me 136 houses in local towns all within 5mile radius, said the work was top quality and clients had been giving compliments on standard of cleans! Estimated monthly income is £1500 for the 136 properties.
Now I've alreAdy developed my own established round from £700/m to £1000 a month. I am purely trad and work alone. Takes me anything from 60-80 hours a month to complete my current round. With the weather being as it is I'm wondering wether I can do it all or not and am greatly debating whether or not to get a loan and go straight into Wfp.
What shall I do? Go Wfp? Take on someone to help me? This is a great opportunity for me and would take my monthly earnings to a place I couldn't even dream of a month ago.
I'm guessing Wfp will have the work-time, however I'm guessing these 136 properties are going to take me another 60-90 hours monthly, meaning I'll have 150-180 hours worth of work a week which the weTher will not allow ATM.
Help !?

Jim Beam,you state that the weather is holding you back, can I ask why???

We work in all weathers, only time we stop is if it is torrential or when we get uncomfartably wet.

In the area where I live it rained 182 days last year, maybe not all day but still 182 days, almost 6 months.

I can not afford to be sat at home for that amount of time every year so tell my customers we will be cleaning in the rain, if they have any problems after we have cleaned then they can ring at anytime, had one phone call last year.

How do you live on £1000 per month?

If your current round takes 60-80 hours per month trad, that really is only 1.5 to 2 weeks worth of work, so taking on these extra, should not be difficult to slot them in....It's being put your way for nothing??? get in there and don't dither, it's not every day somebody puts this amount of work your way

As above current round should be taking 2 weeks so get wfp speed up a little and just take the work if it's free!!
Would love to be given that amount of work lol

It's a no brainer mate, get yourself a WFP setup to use on the new round and stay trad on your old one if you want.  If you like WFP then try to convert your trad customers over to it.

You should be able to get something tidy together for under a grand equipment wise.

I'm gonna take it on, may have to employ a helper for a while as I physically can't upgrade to Wfp ATM as I'm working from my car, and won't get insured on van for another few months yet.

sounds like you need a change of attitude and equipment.you need wfp without a shadow of a doubt.also working in the rain is a must unless its lashing it down all day.

wfp is a hassle at first.buying the equipment and faffing around getting used to the system.it took me a good 3 months before i really started to speed up and know how to clean different types of windows to a good standard.

with the work you have you should easily be able to clean a grands worth of work in 2 weeks.are you slow trad or are your prices on the low side or both?

this other work should be able to be cleaned in the remaining 2 weeks.

go straight for a van mount from the start.faster and easier than trolleys and backpacks and get yourself the lightest pole you can afford preferably a full carbon pole although a hybrid like a clx will do at first if money is tight.

after a few months wfp and once you ve got used to the extra workload you ll find yourself cleaning that £2,500 worth of work a month easily with days to spare to fit in more work or enjoy the time off.

i would say convert all your upper windows over to WFP STRAIGHT AWAY!!dont mess about doing a bit here and there.you need to practice and hone your technique! then gradually wfp most ground floor work.

with the summer months coming up, you should be able to cover it all yourself, therefore saving up more quickly for your wfp

so your avg 12.50 an hour?? have you been tradding long? what are your prices like on avg?

It doesnt sound unmanageable to fit 600 -1000 a month + 1500 , we're talking 2100 - 2500
its a good wage but is very average for someone doing 5 days a week full days and priced ok

From memory he doesn't mind working for £10 per hour. Fair play if you can live with that!!!!!

When i left employment and started window cleaning i was very happy on that kind of money , until i started to see the added costs , paid tax , improved equipment , bought rounds, bought a van , realised the amount of work which was not earning money - collecting, admin, canvassing, quoting , etc Cost of fuel and running a vehicle...

Not to mention hols , sick , down days of van - gear , bad weather!!

£10 starts to not very far

I would re think the business plan! Unless you have very low bills, a round near home and are very consistent you might wanna try for a slightly higher hourly average , i would imagine most guys on here are looking for anything above £20 per hour worked.....
