« on: May 19, 2012, 06:50:14 am »
My water coming in is 290 , going down to 36 after ro , then after oldest resin 25 and newest resin now coming out at 1 ppm. when would you swap the oldest resin and put new resin in line .

Are you using a 4040? Tds seems a tad high thru RO

it should be obvious really but ill point it out!! ;) ;D ;D

when the water comes out of the old resin at the the same tds as straight after the ro is when you should bin it!!

my tap tds is around 35-40 so when the first(old) resin vessel starts reading 35-40 i get rid of it and use just one resin vessel until that creeps up to 8-9 then that goes in front of a fresh resin vessel until it reaches 35-40 etc, etc.and so it goes on and on!! ;D ;D ;D

hope this helps!!

best wishes

right dazmond i want to pick your brains just redone figuires
tap water 288
out ro at 30
after 1st di its 30
after 2nd di its 1

so do i now put new resin in 1st di and then put the 2nd di in its place and new resin after

or just take 1st di out of use because its not doing anything run on 2nd di only till it goes up to say 005ppm then drop the 2nd di vessel in line.after the di reading 005 if you get what i mean .

i thought when you ran twin di you had them both in line all the time

take the first DI vessel out of use now its reached the tds of the RO and just use the fresh second vessel until that starts to creep up then put that in front of a fresh resin vessel.

you dont use 2 vessels all the time!! ;) ;D ;D

hope this helps

Not sure I agree with Dazmond here.

Your first container is now saturated.  What you now need to do is to use the second resin until it, too, is saturated.

To do that, empty container one and replace the resin.  What was container two you put in as container one and you put the fresh resin in as container two.  Do this whenever your output from container two goes above about TDS005, as you can pretty much rely on the first load of resin being saturated at that point (as yours is).  The reason I say 5 is that, in my case, the odd impurity does get into my IBC (I cut it to get the transfer pump in) so if I dumped at 001 it might just be a little impurity that got into the tank afterwards.

One important point; if you're running two vessels, you don't save a single penny in resin costs whether you let TDS creep up or if you change the moment it goes above zero (above comment notwithstanding).

Dazmond, I think your missing the point of the twin di's

the whole point of it is to save on resin cost.
you was right up till the point of when tds in resin is the same as out of ro this should be bined, the second vessel that has started to rise should then go in place of the one you took off and binned, this can now be used till it rises to the same as ro and the new resin should be after it.
there is no point having twin di vessels with what you have said.
If your not willing to learn, No one can help you, If you are determined to learn, No one can stop you ;)

maybe im not explaining it properly but i do know how it works!! ;D ;D

the point is you DO NOT  USE 2 DI VESSELS ALL THE TIME!!

when the single DI starts to creep up to say 05-10 then you put a fresh resin vessel in front of it so the tap water or RO is filtered DOWN to 05-10 then the fresh resin polishes it down to zero.obviously when the tds out of the first old resin vessel reaches the tap tds/RO you bin it and just carry on with a single vessl until it starts to creep up again and so it goes on and on and on!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm glad I read this. It reminded me to check my water. Out of ro 28ppm, out of first di 50ppm  :o out of second di 2ppm
Just refilled and swapped vessels around and ordered another bag of resin.

What you should be doing is running two di vessels in line. When the tds rises to say 5 after the second vessel, put the second vessel in "first place", renew the resin in what was vessel 1 and put it in "2nd place" This way the you get more use out of all the resin. It is a bit like explaing the rules of cricket though  :)
