literally 

was climbing on a flat roof today on a house i clean windows on and foot went through the felt,wood was rotten, its a carport type roof side of house, the house is a bit run down really has a broken window at the front and i noticed after the roof doesnt even have felt on 1 side of it so must leak water through it anyway the roof is knackered and i wont be cleaning the bathroom window again incase it happens again,they just have a load of rubbish under the carport

what should i do about this??? i would definatly say something to custy on most of my houses as it would be obvious but with there being so many things that the house needs (diy) wise im not sure if say owt or not or just go put a piece of felt over the hole and silicone it down

could show you my leg from friday am lucky i never broke my leg ladder slipt back;
if their house is in disrepair wont matter and they could take you for a ride charging more
than you think fair;in fact most will take addvantage that way

I am sure the crew will not agree with my stand point, but I feel its for the owner of the house to maintain there home and give you a safe surface to work from.I would not fix a thing if you got injured its them who would be liable for that injury.

comeing off the roof on fri i broke a small pane should i fix that;
ive said to bill me but its a doctors and i think he will get a couple of other panes done
at the same time; may do the house another time then drop;
had words the other month his wife wanted me to clamber over railings to clean balcony windows

this what i thought,dont want them trying get a new roof out of my insurance if my insurance covers that,iv just got p/l insurance

I think customers have a legal responsibility to make sure their property is safe for you to work on, if you had injured yourself you could possibly sue them for not having the roof in a good condition, that's of course providing you sought their permission before you started to do the job.

i done this a few years back foot straight through flat roof. nice house nice people put a note through door to tell them it was me and went round that night to see them they said no problem dont worry about it we will repair it as long as i was ok that was the main thing. still got them as a custy now.

I agree with this, and my past experience with such an issue seems to bear this out.  My foot went through a badly maintained flat roof once (this was on a single storey extension).  Although I did take steps to temporarily protect the roof from rain going in, it was very much ex gratia on my part.  The insurance companies seemed to agree as the claim was from their house insurance rather than from my public liability insurance.  He was going to come after me for the insurance excess.  However, I did remind him that if the incident had caused me injury, the injury claim would have been against his insurance.  The consequences (or lack of) of the incident do not alter where fault lies.

totally agree with this post, you guys really need to have a word in your own ear that said it is the home owners fault, you broke it admit it and put it right. so many times do i hear of things like this , it really is a joke, then again I get extra work from this because of the way others are not honest in the way they work.

if your wfp you should not be on the roof simples, if you cant do it from the ground dont do it its not hard to work out, let some other chancer break things, there is plenty of work out there that does not have this problem, but to hide the fact you damaged it and for others to reply saying hide the fact is shocking.
