canvassing advice please
« on: May 01, 2012, 09:27:16 pm »
I am after some canvassing advice from all you guru's please.

Canvassed an area today and for 2 hours the only reply was "we have a window cleaner" and I must admit they all looked pretty clean too. Now do I carry on or move to another area? they are very spaced out good sized houses so even a few would be worth it.

thanks

well if you think a few would be worth it why not try? it may seem dissapointing to get the "we have a window cleaner " reply but just keep at it, im sure the local windy dont do them all, once you get a few say yes , the motovation will then kick in  ;D

Chin up ar lines and keep going - at the very worst it's good experience and you can keep working on your
lines and delivery !

Have you canvassed before ? how are you dressed ?  do you have a flyer ?

it's a numbers game and i have canvassed a road where every1 on 1 side of the road had a w/c
the other side i picked up 8 out 11 houses - thats just how it goes sometimes.

once you get one people will see you ( esp. with sign written van ) and before long you will have a 2nd then
3rd etc....

The simple rule of canvassing is: every no is one step nearer to a yes.

It is hard going canvassing and sole destroying, you need the right mindset, be positive and remember each door you get turned away from is one nearer to a yes.

We also go round a few days later with leaflet in hand. Like it has been said every no is one step closer to a yes so keep at it.

I constantly re canvass areas which are saturated and persistence does pay off
Nos eventually do turn to yes for all manner of reasons, dedication and discipline play a big part in it, once you get to a certain size you will get referrals from customers as well which is a nice indicator that your doing a good job

Never judge the house by the windows - i've had as many new customers with 'clean' windows as dirty - some have done them themselves and are simply fed doing them or could not find a windy others looking for a reliable windy who WILL turn up on a set day (subject to weather) every month - not when they feel like it  ;)

All no's get a card - it seems again that mant windy's are unreliable esp. as winter comes around so after a few months you get calls out of the blue we also offer services like conny roof cleans that others do not do...

Canvassing is the hardest thing in the world and can cause stress thinking about it - but take a deep breath and go for it !
at worst they say NO

With canvassing its really a case of "winners never quit, quitters never win" write that somewhere where you can see it every day.

Of coarse most of them will say they already have a window cleaner. Its like all pretty girls already have a boyfriend. You are not going to stumble on a street with nobody already with a foothold.

Buy a streetmap of your area, and canvass every house on every street systematically. Don't go bouncing around here and there.

Its part of the reason I prefer leaflets, you can leaflet the whole map fairly quickly and you will get some bites. Then you can start to canvass around where you get the bites to build little clusters.

For volume I prefer leaflets, and you can go back over the ground and re-leaflet every three months. This is sound because often the third time round is more productive than the first. People start to recognise your leaflet.

For about the past ten years we have recieved the same carpet cleaning leaflet through the door about twice a year. I have never used them but I have passed the leaflet on to several other people.

If you are in it for the long game you can approach it this way.

Thanks for the advice it has all been very helpful just got to keep knocking.
I know a lot a windies around here who have been est for a very long time and rec canvassing rather than leaflet dropping but at the moment the results are not as good as dropping leaflet.
