Time to get started
« on: April 24, 2012, 01:11:56 pm »
hello all first post and all that so be easy with me  ;D

Been reading up on loads stuff this past while and while im not window cleaning at he min i am wanting to start so, i currently work in accounts and i fecking hate it, at it over 5 years now and although the pay is good i really detest it now, so the life of a window cleaner seems the better way for me  ;D

i am looking at a system from purefreedom and i see alot of you use them so they must be decent enough? hw is the after sales services any good?

Im looking into a hot water system, it is a bit of an expense but i assume it does a better job?

I have never used a wfp before so must get bit of praticing soon, i seen it done on you tube vid's its looks handy enough just finding your own technique?

There is a few window cleaners in my area so from the start i want to look good and professional and look the part, so when starting what method is best to gain cutomers? door to door canvassing? leaflet drop?

Ok thats it for now but expect 1000 more questions later  ;D

I've used a Pure Freedom 25 ltr trolley for five and a half years now. Obviously I've had to maintain it and all contact I've had with them has met with a professional and friendly response. Items posted have always arrived quickly. I also currently use their 300 gpd water purifcation system, however, for poles, brushes and hose fittings I use Gardiner Pole Systems (another excellent service). I use hot water in the winter and as I work form a car I heat it using an L5 gas heater before I load my car.

I would go out with another window cleaner for a week or 2 and see if the job is your cup of tea before you go out spending loads on hot water systems etc, its not as easy as it looks on you tube!!

Have many of you got hot water systems?

Or is a cold water system much difference? Im just thinking cleaning really bad conservatories and guttering etc.

Yeah i really would like to get couple days out trying out the wfp but hey if i cant i cant im just going to roll ahead and go for it.

Im based in Ireland near Monaghan if anyone would be kind enough to show me the robes so to speak?

Good luck to you mate . If you can afford a big drop in wages from what you are getting now . Its not easy running a business best to find someone who is willing to show the ropes . Mike

i personally had a bad experience with pure freedom.  the pump controller had a fault (not their fault i know) but i rang up to be told whoever i needed to speak to was busy and they would call me back.  three times this happened and nobody called me back.  i was without a working system for a week and i have vowed from now on, if i am buying anything that i need to be able to work, buy it from somewhere local.  when something goes wrong you will be very thankful indeed

benny hot water is not necessary.most of us use cold.hot is a luxury.when you ve got no work the last thing you want to do is spend money on equipment you dont need.

keep it simple!

if i were you i would try and get some work with a local window cleaner.learn trad and wfp then in 6 months if you still want to start your own business then go for it.

best wishes

cheers for the advise dazmond!

This is something im defo going to do, i did have a small window cleaning round few years back which was done trad dont think wfp was about then tbh...Its the freedom side of things im really looking for, work for myself with no dead lines etc, be out in the outdoors, be in control of my own income and not be at the mercy of the 9-5 anymore

Ill start small of course maybe a 250 litre di system (my tds is very low) and away i go!

Can i ask roughly how many custies you would want on a monthly basis, im thinking if i can build up to 300 that would be nice but i know that will take some work...

I will canvass, leaflet and do whatever i can to gain customers as im 100% motivated on this!
