try turning it the other way first (to tighten it) then unscrew, good luck is annoying when it happens,

Had this myself luckily managed to free it off with 2 of us on it but we had a kettle of boiling water ready to pour over top if we had failed ...... prob not good for vessel but was nearly our only option or stick it in freezer overnight after draining water out of it perhaps ??

DO NOT STICK IT IN THE FREEZER!!! if water is trapped on the seal it could crack it.

This should do the trick. You may have to remove the pipefittings to allow the band to sit flat around the offending item.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRAPER-56137-OIL-FILTER-STRAP-WRENCH-CAPACITY-300MM-new-/280748760771?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item415dee1ec3#ht_3308wt_1429.

Otherwise you could take out the plastic hoselock fittings in each side and replace them with brass 1/2" male to 15mm compression fittings. then you will need a couple of short lengths of 15mm copper in each one to give you two handles about a foot long each side. The copper may bend if the lid is still too tight and you would need steel bar.
2 of these. http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/plumbing/plumbing-supplies/compression_fittings/-specificproducttype-connectors/-size%3E15mm_x_1_2in_m/Compression-Strght-Connectr-11477761

I normally wrap a ratchet strap around the vessel to hold it still then twist the lid off with my manly hands.

This is what I've done before but it's a good idea to fold a bit of scrim (or similar) to cushion the blow - just in case.
