Ian_Giles (old mod here) did similar a few weeks back.  He bought a new section for his SL2, had the whole pole leant against a wall, the wind took it, it landed on a road - right inbetween some cars in traffic (he was lucky it didn't hit a car) - and an old guy drove straight over it.

Golly how I laughed when I saw his repair job.  He'd plastered it with fibre glass and it looked like an elephants trunk.
