  hi,just about to get some more scrims and rubbers etc,just looking on the wintecs site what are huck towels?i think i need some pointers(not the ladder )always used scrims before for detailing and cill work is there something better or more advanced nowadays????come on tell me what you all use

I use microfiber cloths for detailing. They're better than scrims imo as they don't flake and leave bits all over the glass like scrims can when the weather is hot. I have found they are more hard wearing as well.

Scrims absorb water better though. I've never heard of huck cloths.

Huck towels are to the best of my knowledge used mainly in states they are like the blue towels on a roll that u used to get in public toilets pubs and schools etc johnny wot micro cloths do you use??

vaguley think what you mean richy about the towel,as i said earlier i'm about to place another order for either scrims/micro fibre clothes etc but would like advice on what other people use as you can very easily get stuck in the mud/accustomed to what you have at hand and put up with it

From what's been talked about on here before mate you either use scrim or micro fibrecloths micro cloth wise most seem to use the unger green ones or blue flatweave type from window clean warehouse were most popular  if I remember. iv been using micro cloths for a bit and think they are good however mine are cheap crap ones and I intend to get some better ones when funds allow lol like you say you seem to put up with things sometimes even when there's better things available

yes they are american
and i think they are used in the medical profession as well

They are recycled hospital towels for the U S A they are well washed so do not leave fluff.

Maybe expensive but good quality and can wash them hundreds of times.

hi richy,in reply to your answer,yes i do put up with things and cope with it only due to i guess my ignorance,i like to try new things etc but am out of touch with the trad world,(devoted too much time to wfp and lost touch with trad)is micro fibre the way forward forward?seems a sad post really but theres gotta be a good bit of kit common to us all either scrim,micro fibre or plain old beer towel which makes it all easier and better might be down to preference from person to person i don't know,

To be honest From what I can make out on here it's a bit of a split decision really I think micro cloths are great personally  for detailing work and easy to chuck in the wash the downside of them is theyre only good for detailing when they're dry and in the damper days I end up using loads as they get wet easy others still swear by scrim prob for this reason if you do get some microfibre don't get the cheap fluffy ones like I did get the flatweave type

I use Unger or the blue flatweave jobbies (not sure who makes them though).

I use 2 cloths, one for frames (ideal when damp) and a second (dry) for final detailing of glass.

Do you use any detergent on your cloths to wipe down sills and frames etc Im fussy like yourself lol I use fairy for glass in my applicator bucket and carry a seperate bucket for frame/sill cloths sometimes I have cif in it or sometimes fairy Im still experimenting just wondered how you go about things?

I wouldn't bother with huck towels. They are a small, absorbent towel and poor value, when you look at the cost of scrim and microfibres, these days.

it is worth getting a couple of microcloths just to give a go and see what you like, at the very worst you can use them as frame cloths so not wasted, there are many different prefrences such as just use micro.s or a combo of scrim and micro
