can you flush a merlin ro and how do you do it.my tds is comming out of my merlin at about 31 at the moment and if i need new filters might go down the route of getting a 4040.any advice please.

are you using a booster pump??

there is no flush as such - you get tds creep so the first 5 mins of running the pure should be dumped.

when did you last change the pre filter ?  and do you have any extra pre filters as advised in the manual ?

i havnt changed any of the filters since i got it about a year ago.i dont have any other filters before the merlin i was told didnt need to for window cleaning.
i have seen somebody just rinsing the pre filter out underneath a normal tap on youtube loads of brown crud comming of it.
i dont have a booster my pressure is 40 comming of the tap.
if i need to buy more filters for it i might aswell get a 4040.
just thought id pick your wise brains first.

mine was comming out at 15 but ive just tested it and see it starting to creep up.

only reason im asking is because the higher the tds the more resin im going to get through and we all know that aint cheap.

the carbon pre filter requires changing every 6 months - this is the case with any system
the pre filter costs £20

failure to change it not only slows down the production of water but will ruin the membranes as it just allows unfiltered water into the membranes and GE reccomend a sediment filter and carbon pre filters if using more than 15 gallons per day
these are between 15 & 30 quid inc housings on ebay.

Is it worth me spending money on the pre filter then to see if it will reduce tds

well, the choice is yours really -  £20 on a new merlin pre filter or go out a splash 400 notes on a new system 

and i notice the sediment/carbon filter for these is 80 odd quid which will need replacing on a regular basis....


i used a merlin for nearly 3 years - day in day out (min 400 ltrs a day upto 1200) it never missed a beat and dropped my tap water from 320 to 19 with a booster pump and produced water at around 100 ltrs p/h

my new van came complete with 4040 set-up otherwise i would still be using the merlin.

the filter will reduce the TDS but a decent booster pump would reduce it even further.

I've got merlin with a tap pressure of 38 psi
Tds was coming out at 30

Got a booster pump not pressure is 77psi and Tds
Is 16

Simples get a booster. It will work better
