i went to a custys house that i do 8 weekly and since being there last they had had a connie like cover put over there patio, looked very smart to be fair... the guy was chuffed to bits with it and said to me

'what do you think of this? had it put up a week, the glass is self cleaning'

i replied 'it looks good but its filthy'

he giggled and said he was thinking the same, he should get them on the phone

MAYBE our jobs might be safe after all  ;D

dave if you read the info on self cleaning glass, you are supposed to spray them with water in times of no rain etc to activate the self cleaning apparently, she has obviously read the instructions and is just passing it on to you, as long as she pays just spray the glass :D happy days

self cleaning glass only works really if it is on a window that faces the worst of the weather, it will not scrape bird muck off or anything thing else, but it does stay pretty clean, unless of course it gets no rain, but then again the windows that actually face the rain without self cleaning glass is always cleaner than the other side ;)

might take a bit of thinking to work it all out, but rain doesn't dirty the glass, in facts it cleans it ;D

Several of my customers have self cleaning glass....it doesn't work and clean as normal.  In fact I have a prominent 'Grand Designs' house built with Kevin McCloud explaining how good self cleaning glass is on TV (his program http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rkwPZ3rlQw )that I clean the first Tuesday of every month because it needs to be. Don't ever be worried about this scam thought up by Pilkington Glass (?)

aren't u not supposed to use chemicals, like washing up liquid, on it?

can it scratch easier also?
got couple customers with it and they still get filthy, didn't realise that stuff bout spraying water on.....that really helps?!

sarky comments is a bit harsh  ;D

Self cleaning glass is fine till a bird poo's on it, they have been trying to sell this as you never have to clean glass again which is bs, bird are the thing maybe they didnt think about.

I remember when trad some self cleaning glass was a total nightmare to clean as the blade seemed to stick to it on some houses, I will give it a6 months till she asks you to clean them.

Its just a coating on the glass. Be careful not to scratch it, otherwise its clean as normal. The double glazed window reps massively oversell its benefits.

For large commercial properties I can see the benefits of treated glass to help keep dirt away but for a three bedroom semi having self cleaning glass is madness.

Also, encouraging people to spray the windows with their supply water is all well and good but some of my customers have water so bad they can't make a decent cup of tea or have a decent shower.
