what happens when one of your customers wants his tank filled in the middle of the day as you are out working?

Do you give your customers a key to the garage to help themselves and fill in the honesty book so you can invoice them when you get back?

What happens if 3 of us all rock up within a couple of hours of each other and each wants 650l of water?

I have a 650 litre tank in my van but I never let it go empty, so if I had 100 l left would you still invoice me for 650 litres?

I did ask a local window cleaning company and equipment supplier how much he would sell me water for and he said it would cost me £18.00 to fill my 375l trailer. That was 7 years ago. So I got an R/O and process the water we need.

But often I see W/cers looking for a water supplier and always wanted to ask these questions.

i have an option to buy 2 large tanks im not to sure of the capacity just yet... the present owner said its  enough to service 6 vans which is what he is doing at the moment. he is moving away and he has given me the customers and equip . he said that whatever the amount whether half /quarter tank (whatever) is the same price   i have a girlfriend who is home all day to take money. but i think he sells to cheap. just wondered what is a fair rate . so i can compare to what he charges. it takes only minutes to pump water into the tank so shouldnt hold people up too much  if they do come at once

Teesside.

We have 3 vans between us, a 1000l IBC tank and a 450l R/O. One of the lads works 2 days a week, the other 4 days and I'm full time. In the winter we have to plan our fillups so we have enough.
But if you are taking over an existing arrangement, then whatever R/O his is using is probably good for the purpose.

I personally would say that you need to understand exactly what 1000 litres of water is costing you to produce which also includes R/O servicing and resin costs. It's only when you've got these costings that you can then work your selling price out. The trouble is that if the previous chap was too cheap then an increase will probably mean no customers.

Another thing you need to consider is your neighbours if you are in a residential area. They might complain to the council when seeing different vans coming and going.

Yeah, i heard the same. What i do now is go out the house in ordinary clothes and get changed into my workwear in the van incase anyone sees me. Then when i get round the corner i put the magnetic van signs on, keeps the DWP off ya case too !!! Working from your own houses, big no no !!!
