making pure water
« on: February 17, 2012, 12:09:57 pm »
Afternoon all,

I am looking to get into WFP cleaning, I live in a hard water area.

My garage is away from my house and dont have an outside tap. Therefore I am thinking of having two water storage tanks in the garage. Put tap water into one and filter through to other tank to purify. I can run a hose from indoor house to the garage to fill up tank. Am wondering if anyone does it this way? or is there an alternative way of doing it? wht equipment would I need? and how long would it take to filter water from one tank to the other?

Sorry for the many questions guys. Look forward to hearing from you all.

You would have to have a booster pump to build the pressure, you would also only get 500 litres of pure due to waste(depending which ro used).

You would be better off installing and outside tap and running it from that...

Get an outside tap - then purify straight into one tank (use a booster pump as well is miles quicker)
Putting an outside tap in is cheap as chips fella

using an outside tap and a booster pump how long would it take to purify the water?

Dont really want to leave a hose running from house to garage for long period of time. As kids where I live can be little gits at times and might tamper with the hose.

with booster pump can filter up to around 300 litres an hour or more depending on pressure, with 4040 membrane.

have u got tank in van or back pack. if back pack I know of some who have filters in kitchen or utility room and fill containers. awkward, but doesn't sound ideal where u are anyway.

Hvnt got tank in van or back pack. Currently clean traditional way. Just looking to move into WFP.

If the water purifys that quickly from house to tank in garage I could run the hose from the house to garage. Was just worried that purifying water would take hours and therefore someone might tamper with hose

Thats another option, to put tank in back of van,run hose from house straight into van and purify there

may be better to purify in your van then.
get your tank fitted, then either have the RO in your van, or RO in your house with hose to van tank.

and production time is all about how much money you can spend, my current RO is 90l and hour and cost £400

I used to pop a merlin on top of my tank and run a hose straight into back of the van then another one with the waste into my grid. Didn't take long.

u really need to check your water pressure, bear in mind each area, and even estates, differ. then you can make an informed decision for which RO to go for. I ratherered spend more and do a better, quicker, job.

also your tap tds.

I had my 4040 RO in van to start off, parked it on drive for 3 hours a night, hose through the house via booster pump. don't really want booster pump exposed for security. I also had 2 holes drilled in van floor for inlet water to RO and waste from, this way van could be locked.

I've got outside tap to booster pump in garage then hose thru catflap!! To outside ports on van - everything is locked and secure - can fill 500ltr in about 3/4 hrs mate
Much longer without pump tho
If you have smaller tank then fill time will obviously be a lot quicker

so would u use a booster pump aswell as a 4040 membrane? or just one or the other.

Am looking to prob produce 300/400 litres a day and need it to produce quickly due to running hose accross neighbours front garden. (which iam sure they would be ok with but dnt want to take the pee) by leaving the hose out there for 3/4 hours

whatever membrane, booster pump will speed up production for you. but the 4040 will produce quickest for you, esp with booster pump.
