Gardiners brush scraper
« on: February 18, 2012, 06:30:37 pm »

Anyone used these? A briiliant idea but the bevel is the wrong way, it should be on the other side. Flat edge onto the muck and the angle should lift it off but the way they are designed the bevel touches the glass first so unless the angle is exact it wont get under the muck. So Alex, could be a brilliant help/ product but just isnt. A change in design is needed!
Or am I being a numpty and using them wrong, in which case....HELP!

You do need to use the scraper at exactly the right angle to get the best scraping action. This means if using with a Resi-Neck at the pre-set 45°, turning the pole through 180° should give you the correct angle. The reason that the scraper has been designed with the flat edge facing upwards is to protect painted woodwork on windows from a sharp edge of the scraper facing up and also to protect the edge of the scraper from unnecessary damage if coming into contact with upper masonry reveals.

I notice that you have the swivel resi-neck - I would imagine that this will make use of the scraper slightly more tricky in getting correct pressure at the right angle.

Thanks for that Alex. I still would prefer the bevel on the other side though, maybe i'll modify it.

Yes, it is the superlite medium dual trim sill brush. I havent used it yet. I bought it based on the feedback on this forum. If i'm honest I thought there would be a lot more bristles and I cant see how they can be as good as said. I would have thought the more bristles the better but as ive only used brushes (vikan, a lot more bristles) ,with tap water for coony roofs and not yet done my first day wfp I shouldnt comment, as i know nothin! They come very well recommended.

I'd imagine you want to be absolutely certain the scraper wouldn't contact the masonry otherwise it's scratch galore. Next time I'm buying things of Gardiners again a resi swivelneck is definitely on the shopping list and I might get one of these too. Kind of pointless now I'm hot but I like trying new things.

i find it definitely helpful having a scraper attached.they only work if the bird muck is not at the bottom or right near the edge of windows though.better than nothing!!

the sill brushes are great.dont forget to alter the angle of the brush as the jets are nearer the top than on standard brushes.you can clean sills a lot more effectively and they are very light.medium dual trims are great for scrubbing frames as well.
