hot water systems
« on: February 02, 2012, 04:23:36 pm »
with so much talk lately about hot water systems i thought i would start a poll about it.

I am seriously considering getting a hot system, hotwash or similar, perhaps even an immersion heater system, when i finally get new house sorted, and can park up on driveway.

I must admit, few years ago, i was thinking even cold wfp would not benefit me, and how wrong was I? I have one rural round that used to take 1.5days to finish on ladders, now it can be done in 1 day.

then i heard of the hot water systems, and thought the same - wont benefit me - but now im swaying to the idea.

anyway, lets see how this poll goes.

im not sayin we need hot water.

Like yourself, i havent lost a days work due to the frost this winter either. I've been draining the pipes of a night, and sticking oil filled radiator on full whack, for half an hour in the morning, in the back of the van. Also, filling the tank with hot water in the morning.

Hot is great BUT, THERE ARE  RUNNING COSTS. In just under 3yrs I have just had new burner fitted £500, I am now needing new battery, this will be the 3rd. £120 , Diesal , Having said that though, IT IS much better , quicker to use, can carry out jobs that cold, just cannot handle. HERE IN SURREY YOU CAN EARN THE REQUIRED MONEY TO PAY FOR IT ,JUST. BUT ELSEWHERE I WOULD BE VERY CAREFULL.

i have a 250ltr holding tank i garage that i filter into and fitted a n emersion element during the summer and never used until today. Minus 2 here this morning so flicked it on at 7 and by 9 it was nice and hot, transfered this into van tank and worked all day. Water did not stay hot for long even though van tank all insulated but even by lunch water was still tepid. will do this again full days work done and cost me all of £18 although i think i will further insulate van tank.

Loving my L5 heater! This is the 2nd winter I've used it..

It cost me £100 secondhand and £30 for a gas bottle in November 2010 and I thought I would just buy it to keep working through the snow, which it did brilliantly (didnt lose a single day to the cold, when everyone was moaning about freezing systems!).

This winter I was prepared to buy another one because I took it out of the van in March and chucked it in the shed, but I plumbed it back in to the van and away it went  ;D .

So these past couple of days I've been using nice soft supple hoses and a lovely hot system  :)

Oh Ive had to buy a new gas bottle (£34 this year..shock horror)

Come on lads/lasses, everyone can answer this.

Anyway, so far, the positives votes r outweighing the negatives

I've been hot a few years now & would never go back. The advantages in the winter are obvious, but even in the summer its great for first cleans & PVC cleaning. Plus the hoses are much more supple & easier to work with.  ;)
